As the year winds to a close, students are busy preparing for their

End of Year Concert items. Our theme for this year is “Out of

Africa”, the sets have been designed, the music is ready and it

promises to be a spectacular event. The concert commences at

6pm with the presentation of awards, followed by the items. We

look forward to welcoming each and every member of our

community to join us for this event.

Extension programs and Specialist programs for 2018 and 2019

This year we supported student learning with extension classes in

STEM and The Arts. These programs were supported by a range

of learning opportunities, parent engagement and outside

presenters. We are seeking feedback from parents with children

involved, regarding the value of these programs. As a school we

have seen value from them through increased student creativity,

problem solving and student engagement. I would be happy to

receive parent feedback about the programs via email, a short

note or through a visit to my office with comments. We thank Mrs

Newman and Mrs Hobley for presenting these programs. Mrs

Hobley will be leaving us in 2019 and we are currently looking for

someone to support the continuation of the program, with a

specific focus on inquiry learning and higher order thinking strate-

gies. We thank Mrs Hobley for all she has done and wish her the

best as she returns to her permanent role at Nyabing Primary

School.

As many of you will have heard, Miss McCarley is taking leave for

2019. Miss Palmer will step into the Physical Education role, having taught this in England prior to her

arrival in Western Australia. Miss Palmer will also adopt the role of the Specialist Science teacher. Miss

McCarley will be with us for the first 5 weeks, supporting staff release as we plan for our student programs

for 2019.

Teaching staff 2019

announce that we have secured Miss Claire Batchelor for 2019 to support our early years team of Miss

Smallacombe and Mrs Le Roux. Miss Batchelor is a former Katanning girl who has been teaching for

Braeside Primary School has a new

GOOD STANDING

SWIMMING IN 2019

On the Monday 10th December 2018 students will have their Good

Standing Day and Shared Lunch.

Activities for students will include water fun activities at school, please

ensure students have their bathers and towel to enjoy the water activities.

Students will also need a dry uniform to change into.

A shared lunch will commence at 12.30pm in the Undercover Area and

we welcome Parents and Families to join us for our shared lunch.

Students are asked to please bring a plate of food to share with the rest of

the school. Parents are welcome to bring a plate if you wish.

Next year Students from Year 3 to Year 6 will have their annual swimming

lessons.

Lessons will commence in Week 4, 25th February 2019 and go for 2 weeks until

the 8th March 2019.

Further information will be forwarded home next year, closer to the dates.

8 years in the Early years. Currently working at Deanmore Primary, she has worked closely with the staff of

Jolimont Primary, a school our early years team is also working with. Claire is returning to Katanning with her

partner from Kojonup and we look forward to having her as a future member of staff. This leaves us fully

staffed with teachers for 2019, our Education Assistant positions have closed and we look forward to

announcing successful applicants in the next newsletter. The Aboriginal Indigenous Education Officer is also

currently advertised.

Class placement request forms were due last Friday and it is pleasing to see that many parents have taken the

opportunity to complete these. If you have any questions regarding arrangements for 2019, please do not

hesitate to contact me.

School Council 2019

School Council met yesterday and made modifications to the Terms of Reference for the School Council. These are to be actioned for the commencement of 2019. The period of tenure in positions has been increased to three years. School Council feels that a three year term for all positions gives a member time to understand the complexity of the role and an opportunity to develop deep knowledge, giving a higher value of contribution. Members who wish to only take on a two year term are able to resign before their term ends.
