Outline of Project

For the Make project both of us have been making coffee cozies/sleeves which are basically what you get around your coffee at Starbucks but with cloth on it so it is more heat resistant and looks nicer. Emily did not use the cardboard sleeve in the sleeves that she made. We used pre-owned XXL tee shirts, so we could have as much fabric for the smallest amount of money. Money was a concern at first for deciding our Make project because we did not want to spend a fortune. So we came to the conclusion of making coffee sleeves and that worked out.

What We LearnedWe learned how to sew better and how far

away the stiches have to be away from each other to make the stich look the best.

We learned multiple ways to make a cozy whether it was one piece, with the cardboard or without the cardboard on the inside.

We also learned techniques with templating and cutting out cloth because the cloth folds weirdly

ChallengesA challenge was buying all of the materials on

time to start the projectWe also had the challenge of keeping up with

the blog, wiki and video documentationWe had trouble communicating so we started

to post what we where going to do that weekAnother challenge was the detailing on the

design on the stitching because we are not pro sewers

Lastly, there was a challenge of the proses of getting the video up onto the wiki, because we had video taped on some devices that did not connect directly to YouTube

Methods used to Overcome ChallengesEmily went to a rummage sale and got

shirts for 25 centsWe kept up with the blog wiki and

documentation by taking 5 mins and the beginning and end of class to go over our work and this is also how we communicated

The designs where hard to fix but we got better as we went along

We had to change the ending address (.JPG, .PNG, etc.) on Emily's and Rachel had to email the video to a different computer to get it to work

Estimation of Project:We thought that we were going to make 2-3

in the whole project and we found out that the cozie without a cardboard sleeve takes longer to make and Emily only made one. This happened because she made it and the cup was still to hot so she added four layers of cloth to the outside to and it more heat resistance. Rachel did not attempt to make any of the cozies without a cardboard base. She had an easer time because the cardboard was good for a base layer for heat resistance and stitching.
