Cutting Directions:WOF = width of fabric from selvage to selvage. Because several fabrics are directional, pay close attention when cutting and piecing to keep pieces upright in the completed quilt.

23736 X: Scenic Horse Print (Directional)• Cut (2) 6½" x WOF strips. Recut into (2) 6½" x 36½"

strips for top and bottom outer borders.• Cut (2) 6½" x 45½" strips along the length of the fabric

for outer side borders.

23739 A: Brown Tree Print• Cut (6) 3½" x WOF strips. Recut 2 strips into (8) 3½" x

6½" H rectangles. Trim 2 strips to make (2) 3½" x 36½" inner top and bottom border strips. Set aside strip ends and remaining WOF strips for inner side border strips.

23738 A: Packed Horse Print (Directional)• Cut (2) 6⅞" x WOF strips. Recut into (10) 6⅞" squares.

Cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 20 C triangles.

23740 AJ: Dark Brown Stone Print• Cut (1) 6½" x WOF strip. Recut into (4) 6½" x 6½" G

squares.• Cut (2) 3½" x WOF strips. Recut into (20) 3½" D

squares.• Cut (7) 2¼" x WOF binding strips.

23528 E: Cream Tonal• Cut (2) 6⅞" x WOF strips Recut into (10) 6⅞" squares.

Cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 20 I triangles.

• Cut (2) 3⅞" x WOF strips. Recut strips into (20) 3⅞" squares. Cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 40 E triangles.

23741 G: Green Plaid• Cut (1) 3⅞" x WOF strip. Recut strip into (10) 3⅞"

squares. Cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make (20) B triangles.

• Cut (3) 3½" x WOF strips. Recut strips into (34) 3½" F squares.

23737 K: Horse Patches (Directional)• Mark 7½" on each side of the top left corner. Draw a

45-degree angled line to connect the 2 marks. Cut along the marked line; discard the trimmed corner. Cut (5) 4¾"-wide strips along the trimmed angled edge. Recut strips into (10) 4¾" x 9" A rectangles.

Backing:• Cut (2) 71" x WOF backing rectangles.

Completing Block 1

1. Sew an E triangle to a D square to make a D-E unit; press seam toward E. Repeat to make a total of 20 D-E units.

2. Sew an E triangle to opposite sides of an F square to make an E-F unit; press seams toward E. Repeat to make a total of 10 E-F units.

3. Sew a D-E unit to opposite sides of 1 E-F unit to make a center unit; press seams in 1 direction. Repeat to make a total of 10 center units.

4. Sew a C triangle to opposite sides of a center unit to complete 1 Block 1, keeping the print upright in the C triangles. Press seams toward C. Repeat to make a total of 10 Block 1’s.

Completing Block 2

1. Sew a B triangle to each end of an A rectangle to make a center unit; press seams toward B. Repeat to make a total of 10 center units.

2. Sew an I triangle to opposite sides of a center unit to complete a block unit; press seams toward I. Repeat to make a total of 10 block units.

3. Mark a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of 20 F squares. Place an F square right sides together on each I corner of a block unit and stitch on the marked line. Trim seam allowances to ¼" and press F to the right side to complete 1 Block 2. Repeat to make a total of 10 Block 2’s.

Completing Corner Blocks

1. Sew H to G and F to H; press seams toward H.

2. Sew the G-H unit to the F-H unit to complete 1 Corner block; press seam to 1 side.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to complete a total of 4 Corner blocks.

Completing the Quilt:Note: Refer to the diagram of the finished quilt for arrangement of blocks and border strips.

1. Arrange and join 2 each Block 1’s and Block 2’s, starting with Block 1 to make row 1; press seams in 1 direction. Repeat to make rows 3 and 5.

2. Arrange and join 2 each Block 2’s and Block 1’s, starting with Block 2 to make row 2; press seams in the opposite direction from rows 1, 3 and 5. Repeat to make row 4.

3. Join the rows in numerical order to complete the quilt center; press seams in 1 direction.

While all possible care has been taken to ensure the accuracy of this pattern, we are not responsible for printing errors or the way in which individual work varies.

4. Join the 3½"-wide brown tree print strips on the short ends to make a long strip; press seams to 1 side. Recut strip into (2) 3½" x 45½" side strips. Sew these strips to the 6½" x 45½" horse scenic print strips along the 45½" edges to make side border strips. Sew a side border strip to opposite long sides of the quilt center; press seams toward the strips.

5. Sew a 3½" x 36½" brown tree print strip to the bottom edge of (1) 6½" x 36½" horse scenic print strip and the remaining 3½" x 36½" brown tree print strip to the top edge of the remaining 6½" x 36½" horse scenic print strip; press seams toward the wider strips.

6. Sew a Corner block to opposite ends of each pieced strip, paying careful attention to the quilt diagram for positioning of blocks. Press seams away from the Corner blocks. Sew these strips to the top and bottom of the quilt center, paying careful attention to the direction of the prints referring to the quilt diagram to complete the quilt top.

7. Remove selvage edges from the 71" x WOF backing rectangles and join along the 71" edges; press seam open. Trim the joined rectangles to make a 62" x 71" backing rectangle with a vertical seam.

8. Join the 2¼"-wide dark brown stone print binding strips with diagonal seams, trim seams to ¼" and press open to make a long strip. Fold the strip with wrong sides together along the length and press to make a double-layered binding.

9. Layer, quilt, and bind using your favorite methods and the prepared binding strip and backing piece to complete the runner.
