Quick News February 17, 2015 Superintendent’s Message John P. Kronour, Ph.D. The second Annual Miami County Science Day held at Tippecanoe High School was a great success. Ninety students completed and exhibited projects in biology, chemistry, botany, physics, engineering, mathematics, and other sciences. The success and growth of this event is a tribute to our community sponsors, volunteers, teachers and judges who dedicate hours to planning and organizing this event. It is a massive undertaking that spans months. THANK YOU. I also would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Martin English, a Tipp City veterinarian, who is the driving force behind this phenomenal venue that promotes STEM research, student participation, and academic excellence. Congratulations to the Tipp City students in grades 5 through 12 who received a “Superior” rating on their science research projects at the Miami County Science Day. The second Annual Miami County Science Day held at Tippecanoe High

School was a great success Ninety students completed and exhibited projects

in biology chemistry botany physics engineering mathematics and other

sciences The success and growth of this event is a tribute to our community

sponsors volunteers teachers and judges who dedicate hours to planning and

organizing this event It is a massive undertaking that spans months THANK

that promotes STEM research student participation and academic excellence

Congratulations to the Tipp City students in grades 5 through 12 who received a ldquoSuperiorrdquo rating on their

Congratulations Luke Becker

Tippecanoe High School junior Luke Becker performed with the 2015 Ohio All-State Band Congratulations

on this prestigious honor This is the second consecutive year for Lukersquos participation an honor not many

can boast As part of this experience Luke rehearsed with the group for two days under the direction of

Frank Tracz PhD Director of Bands at Kansas State University After just two days of preparation the

students gave an exceptional concert for an audience of hundreds of music educators and parents Luke will

also represent Tipp next month as he travels to perform with Bands of America National Honor Band This

ensemble is open to students across the United States Congratulations on these awesome accomplishments

Congratulations to the Tippecanoe High School Chess Club for a second place

finish in the Dayton Chess Championships The chess club lost a hard fought match

to Beavercreek High School Congratulations to seniors Jacob Miller and Tyler Hartz

for scoring match play victories in the championship round

Broadwayrsquos Super Citizens of the Month

Congratulations to this monthrsquos Super Citizens The Broadway Elementary students earned this special

recognition from their teachers for showing tolerance---a positive character trait

Broadway Elementary School had some new ldquoprincipalsrdquo The students enjoyed the role after earning at least 120 points in the Accelerated Reading program by January 17 The boys are left to right Caden Turner Will Riehle Gabe Lee and Caleb Ransom The girls are left to right Katie Smith Aly Schellhouse and Gracie Ganger They also ate lunch with their principal Galen Gingerich who says most of these students are well beyond that mark

Looking Beautiful at 100 years Old

Kindergarten students at Nevin Coppock Elementary School celebrated 100 Days in style To mark the 100th

day of school they dressed as a 100-year-old person and enjoyed activities centered around 100

Spreading Love Tippecanoe Middle School students in Friends of

Rachel and Student Council combined forces to

make handmade Valentines for veterans and

senior citizens It was a fun crafty creative

time for these student volunteers from both

clubs

A Very Special Valentines

LT Ball Intermediate students delighted the residents at the Randall Residence and SpringMeade with a

special Valentinersquos delivery that included dancing and singing One highlight of the performance came when

students asked the residents to dance with them Thank you to physical education teacher Mrs Jeanne Koch

and music teacher Mrs Sharon Pfister for helping our students warm the hearts of so many people

Celebrating Valentinersquos Day

Combine food games crafts and cards and you get a fun Valentinersquos Day party Elementary students

gave the classroom parties a thumbs up Thank you to the parents for organizing and sending in the

donations for the memorable afternoon

Artistic Talents It is that time of year again The Ohio Governorrsquos Youth Art Exhibit is approaching and seeking the works of talented students Regionals will be judged at Stivers School for the Arts on March 7 2015 Any high school art student who would like to submit work needs to have it framed and show-ready by February 25 2015 Entry fees are $200 per work of art See Tippecanoe High School art teachers Mr Rick Mack or Miss Alexis Gentry if you have questions or need to pick up a form

Gifted Education Meeting Tonight The Gifted Education Department will be holding an informational meeting for parents on Tuesday February 17 2015 from 600 pm-700 pm The meeting will take place in the Media Center at LT Ball Intermediate School Topics will include characteristics of gifted children gifted identification procedures and services available

College Credit Plus Meeting (FORMERLY PSEO) February 25 All parents of students interested in enrolling in the new College Credit Plus program must attend a mandatory meeting February 25 at 630 pm at the high schoolrsquos Center for Performing Arts College Credit Plus replaces the PSEO and Dual Enrollment Programs beginning 2015-2016

Campus Caravan Varsity T is sponsoring another Campus Caravan on March 3rd The campus caravan is available to junior students and will be visiting Ohio State University and Otterbein University The caravan will be leaving from THS during 1st period and arrive home at approximately 445 pm Students must pick-up and return permission slips with $15 to the guidance office Seats are limited to only 25 students

Juniors College Planning Night Junior students and their parents are invited to attend a college planning session on March 10th at 630 pm at the high school in the Center for Performing Arts College Admission Representatives from University of Cincinnati Miami of Ohio University of Dayton Wright State University and Sinclair will be in will attend to answer college admission questions and provide valuable insight into the college admission process

Last Minute Test Prep For students who would like extra help for the Spring SAT and ACT Kaplan Test Prep will be hosting free online SAT and ACT Cram Sessionstrade to help students prepare for the upcoming exams Sessions will be offered starting Saturday February 21st Space is limited to sign up for a Cram Session today please visit wwwkaptestcomfreecram

Increase Your Chance for a Higher ACT Score Being prepared is the key to test success This four-week course will give students the knowledge they need to be test-wise The class reviews Math English and Science to help students do well when taking the ACT test or to improve their ACT test scores when they take it again The course meets twice a week for four weeks and is available at two separate times See the guidance webpage for details

Congratulations to the Varsity Wrestling Team on their dominating performance at home over conference rival Tecumseh In the Annual Battle for the T Trophy the Red Devils in front of a large and exciting home crowd defeated the Arrows 54-22 It was also senior night for the wrestling program who will graduate nine tremendous young men this year Special congratulations to Junior Jack Peura who etched his name in the Tippecanoe Wrestling record books becoming the 12th member of the Hundred Win Club Jack earned his 100th career victory CONGRATULATIONS to the Tippecanoe High School swim team The boys earned 1st place at the Trotwood D2 Sectionals The girls earned 2nd place at the Centerville D2 Sectionals Swimmers qualifying for District are Arielle Arnett Kirsten Bell Alissa Buynak Bailey Cahill Cami Cahill Enya Gernon Anna Kleplinger Sam Williams and Carsyn Woltz Also qualifying are Jay Bell(who seeded first in the 50-free and 100-free) Adam Buynak Ben Jans Mitchell Poynter Evan Stapp Michael Taylor and Ryan Wall The SW D2 District Championships are Friday Feb 20 at Miami University Boys start at 1045 am girls start at 545 pm GOOD LUCK SWIMMERS

CONGRATULATIONS Middle School Athletes The 7th grade girls basketball team is the CBC Champion with a 44-22 win over Greenon in the tournament final The 8th grade girls basketball team is the CBC Runner-up with a 29-38 loss to Tecumseh in the tournament final

The middle school wrestling team competed in the CBC league tournament over the weekend placing 7th out of 12 teams

ACT Prep Test -- Online registration is underway The ACT Prep Class prepares students to take the test perform well and possibly increase the test scores Emphasis is placed on timing test makeup questions to avoid creative guessing reading techniques and frequent errors in English TMCS will be offering three sessions Students must purchase the latest edition of Cracking the ACT
