4-H Handbook Suggestions

If there are things in the 4-H Handbook that seemed unclear to you or if you have suggestions for improvement next year, be sure to put these in writing and send them to the Extension Office. Any help you could give us at this time could make it easier for you and others next year. Please be Specific in the wording and keep the goals of the project(s) in mind. The project superintendents are also submitting

suggestions, so feel free to contact them if you have recommendations. Final deci-sions are made by the 4-H Exhibit Association. Suggestions are due by September 18th.

Drive Rite Keys to Smart Driving Program According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,

6,000 teens die each year from injuries sustained from crashes. Auto-

mobile crashes are the number one killer of American teens, but there

are effective ways to prepare teens for the road ahead.

The Drive Rite: Keys to Smart Driving program brings parents and

teens together for six workshops to learn the skills of driving safely. The program pro-

vides parents with the resources necessary to teach teens driving awareness, safety,

and skills through active participation. Teens learn to critically think about their driving

behaviors. Drive Rite is recommended for teens 15-18 years old.

The Drive Rite program does not replace traditional driver’s education, but past partici-

pants say the program really expands on driver’s education and for those teens who are

not signing up for driver’s education, this is a strong alternative.

To learn more about the Drive Rite: Keys to Smart Driving contact the Tippecanoe

County Extension Office 765-474-0793. Cost for the program is $25 for one child and

$10 for each additional child. This covers the cost of the Parent Driving Manual, Log-

book Kit, including DVD and six workshops. Classes will begin September 18th and

meet 1 night a month for 6 months. To enroll or for further information call Roberta at

765-474-0793.

We are still missing several club’s achievement meeting dates. If you are a club leader and know the date of your achievement program, please contact Debbie at the extension office (765) 474-5330.

All members will be notified of their club’s achievement program, which should be held soon. Please try to attend, as this is where you will receive your completion pin and possibly other recognition. Club leaders, we ask that you inform the Extension Office of the date, time and location of your Achievement programs. The following table lists the current club achieve-ment programs we have been notified of.

Leadership Opportunity for

8, 9, & 10-year members!

The Tippecanoe County 4-H Exhibit Association will be adding five Youth Repre-

sentatives to the board for 2015. Each representative will serve a two year term,

and be a voting member of the 4-H Exhibit Association. All 4-H members who

will be enrolled in their 8th, 9th, or 10th year of 4-H in 2015 are invited to apply.

This is a great way to get involved in the planning of the upcoming fair and meet

new people while gaining leadership skills.
