DATA FUSION PCIe 2-way SOLID STATE DRIVE

Quick Installation Guide

VisionTek DATA FUSION SSD Overview

Welcome to the next generation of solid state storage! The VisionTek DATA FUSION PCI-Express SSD offers enterprise class performance and reliability in a consumer grade storage solution. With up to 810Mb/s of write speeds, the VisionTek DATA FUSION PCI-Express offers best in class transfer rates which are much higher than any standard SATA III 6Gb/s drives. This high performance allows users to enjoy a much faster experience whether they are working on spreadsheets or video editing. With up to 100,000 IOPS, IT managers will appreciate how quickly this PCI-Express SSD can handle mail servers or other demanding data management requirements.

The VisionTek DATA FUSION PCI-Express SSD is bootable in both Windows and Mac systems so everyone can enjoy the benefits of increased speed and reliability. A robust ECC algorithm and RAISE™ technology protect the data. Efficient bad block management and reduced write amplification further bolster endurance. Drive health is monitored using an SSD-specific set of S.M.A.R.T. attributes. The combina-tion of these techniques provides data protection unrivaled in the storage industry.

Starting Windows After Hardware Installation:Once the DATA FUSION card is installed and the PC cables and connectors are reseated in their original position prior to opening the PC case, you can turn the power on and Boot into Windows.

Since the DATA FUSION is essentially a plug and play SSD, is compatible with Windows XP 32-bit/64-bit, Vista 32-bit/64-bit, Windows 7 32-bit/64-bit, and Windows 8. For any of the listed compatible operating systems, the VisionTek DATA FUSION can be used as a primary boot drive, or as high speed system storage.

Using DATA FUSION as a DATA DRIVEAfter the system boots into windows, the “new hardware found” dialog will commence. During this operation, Windows will determine if the motherboard SATA 6 controller driver is able to recognize the DATA FUSION and finalize the installation without need for any additional software to be installed.

The best way to determine proper installation is open the device manager: Locate and click the arrow by “Disk Drives” and notice “VisionTek PCIe SSD ATA Device”. If you see it and there are no errors you are done! You can also locate “storage controllers” and observe no errors. If there are errors with the installation there will be yellow exclamation points in the device manager. If the installation is without error the Device Manager will look like this” (Figure 2)

Resolving problems with installation of the DATA FUSION as a DATA DRIVEIn some cases, since PCIe Express SSD is a very new technology, you might have to update your SATA 6 motherboard controller Windows driver. The most common installation problem of failure to recognize and install the DATA FUSION PCIe can be resolved by installing the latest Marvell Controller driver. This is NOT a driver necessarily for the DATA FUSION, but rather an update for the motherboard so that it is able to recognize the DATA FUSION.

For convenience, VisionTek has hosted the latest Mavell MV-91xx Windows Driver on VisionTek.com. The driver can be downloaded and installed by following this link:

http://www.visiontek.com/media/downloads/drivers/marvell_mv91xx_1001034.zip

These are the instructions for installing the Mavell MV-91xx Windows Driver:1.) Download the latest driver from the URL link above:

2.) The file is zipped or compressed so you will need to use windows unzip utility, Winzip, or WinRAR (pictured) to open the Marvell driver file.

8.) Choose the location where you want the program to install and click the Install button. The default location of shown is generally correct.

9.) Windows Firewall *might* pop-up and ask you to allow access for Apache HTTP Server, If it does, Click “Allow Access”

10.) Complete the install by clicking the Finish button

11.) When on the Completion screen choose “Reboot now” and click Finish

Using DATA FUSION as a BOOT DRIVEThe DATA FUSION PCIe SSD was designed to be a primary boot drive or data drive. To set the DATA FUSION up as a primary boot drive, ideally you would need to install Windows on it. To do that, refer to the downloadable file location for the Marvell SATA driver.

http://www.visiontek.com/media/downloads/drivers/marvell_mv91xx_1001034.zip

On most systems, no driver is needed for the DATA FUSION since it is essentially a RAID of SSD drives on a PCIe card, however when installing Windows, you may be prompted for any external drivers for hardware support for Windows installation on the DATA FUSION.

Simply refer to the MARVELL_FLOPPY folder. Either place the file on a CD, DVD, or a directory. If promoted for a driver, then point the path of to the location of the MARVELL_FLOPPY directory. You would use either the 32-bit or 64-bit driver depending on whether the operating system is 32 or 64. That’s it!
