Lone Peak High School Report to Stakeholders 2016

Trustlands funds are once again helping Lone Peak High School produce academic excellence. The School Community Council at Lone Peak High consists of parents, teachers, and our Principal to make decisions about the Utah Land Trust Program. The Alpine School District School Board approves the plans, which are implemented the following school year. Lone Peak has been allocated $173,250 this year to implement the plan. Our plan is to increase student success through reducing class size, updating technology, and providing an additional student advocate.
Lone Peak has reached 2,572 Full-time students. The numbers continue to

increase faster than funding allows new teacher hiring. Because of this growth, Trustlands funds are used to reduce class size in several difficult core classes including: Secondary Math I and II, Chemistry, Physics, English 10 and English 11. In addition to reducing class sizes, Trustlands funds are used to provide after-school tutoring for students in all classes, but specifically math, English, and science. The Student Assistance Center is also able to offer a credit recovery program, which students can use to make up lost credit.
By using Trustlands funds to ensure that every teacher and every classroom is up-to-date in terms of technology, we can ensure that students are provided with

every opportunity to gain advantages not only in high school, but beyond into college and the work force.
By adding an additional student advocate we have been able to focus on students struggling with grades and attendance and providing another individual who cares about their success. Student advocates work unassumingly behind the scenes but make a huge impact on many students who are struggling at Lone Peak, both educationally and socially.
The programs funded by the Utah Land Trust are vital to the success of Lone Peak High School achieving the goal of student success, growth, and achievement.
November was Utah College Application Month. At Lone Peak High we celebrate college as a 1 year Certification, 2 year Associate's or Technical Degree, or 4 year Bachelor's Degree or beyond in planning for post high school education. Many of our students completed their college applications with the assistance of college advisors, high school counselors, and parents from the community. During the month, teachers talked about and celebrated the colleges they attended. We have so many great choices in the state of Utah for students to attend college and find their pathway to making a difference in the world.
School Community Council Report
Attendance is a priority at Lone Peak High School. The goal is for a student to miss no more than nine days of school each year, to stay engaged, be successful, and stay on track for graduation. If your student misses just two or three days a month, it can add up before you know it. Even if your student’s absences are excused, your child is still missing crucial instruction. In looking at data from last year at Lone Peak, over 30% of students at Lone Peak missed 10% or more of their classes. We are hoping to decrease these numbers through educating patrons and gaining community support. Families can have a big impact on how a student views attendance. Parents can talk about the importance of showing up to school everyday and can make that the expectation. We can help teach that good attendance is an important life skill that will help students graduate from college and keep a job. At our school, we encourage good attendance and track it on a daily basis in Skyward. If you are concerned about your student’s attendance or have questions about the attendance policy at our school, please feel free to contact the LPHS Attendance Office at 801-610-8811. We at Lone Peak High school, in partnership with our community members, hope to continue to work on improving attendance.
