High availability and independent of WindowsThe new S7-1500 Software Controller is a scalable controller which is particularly suitable for applications in special-purpose machine manufacturing. It stands out due to its high system availability, since production is continued in the event of a reboot (for example due to updates) or even if Windows fails. All functions of the SIMATIC S7-1500 can now also be used for PC-based automation, because functions such as motion, security, and system diagnostics are already integrated. The SIMATIC S7-1500 Software Controller is used together with SIMATIC IPCs and is scalable via the IPC platform and functionality. Engineering is conveniently implemented in the TIA Portal – meaning no Windows settings on the soft-ware controller are required. AGCO GmbH, one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of tractors and farm machinery worldwide, offers high-tech solutions for agriculture. To facilitate more economic production processes with reduced consumption of resources, centralized and integrated machine data acquisition has been introduced by means of panel PCs with all-round protection. Easy retrofitting of the panel PCs direct in the production plant on a stand meant there was no need for additional installation of a control desk, reducing costs even further.

Retrofit for high performance and precision

Heinrich Kuper GmbH & Co. KG, a global player in the woodworking and plastics processing industry, is a specialist in retrofitting older machines. New automation and safety engineering with a fail-safe software controller on a maintenance-free embedded PC multiplied the performance and precision of a customer plant, as well as providing an integrated diagnostics capability. The control cabinet size was reduced by 20 percent, wiring by 50 percent, and machine downtimes were shortened, too.

Control and monitoring of wind turbine generator systems

Siemens turbines for offshore wind farms feature technical characteristics that ensure long-term, low-maintenance operation. Rugged Box PCs in a shock- and vibration-proof all-metal enclosure with high electromagnetic compati-bility ensure safe 24-hour continuous operation at am- bient temperatures up to 55 °C.
