■ Quality improvement in clinical practice requiresorganisational changes that are both strategic andsystematic, and must be based on sound researchmethodology, say researchers from Australia. Anevidence-based approach can assist in theimplementation of evidence-based medicine using aframework for changing practice which includes thefollowing steps: development of a concrete proposal,identification of obstacles, linking interventions toobstacles, development and implementation of a plan,and evaluation of progress. Strategies that have provedto be effective for quality improvement in practiceinclude reminders, as well as small-group, interactive,problem-based educational sessions.
