BEGINNING OF THE DYNASTY

Started off with many states fighting each other.

Then the son of the king of the state of Qin takes over and with his abilities takes over all of China.

He starts with many reforms for China to have an orderly society and a lot of power in the Emperor.

QIN SHI HUANG DI

Child of the late king of Qin. Took over the throne at age 13.

Took over during a lot of strive in his country.

Went on to lead his troops to unite all of China. China named after Qin to represent his land.

He was very smart and a great general.

He believed in legalism and followed through in his way he ruled China

LEGALISM

The belief in that people are naturally bad and need order to keep on track.

Qin used this idea to establish laws and order across China.

Other part of the belief is that people will naturally hurt others if not controlled every minute in life.

Very harsh punishments for those that break the law that included the whole family.

All would be punished to show others what happens when you break the law.

SOCIETY

Society was split up into four sections or classes.

First is the emperor who ruled everyone and was the most powerful.

Second is the governors and other servants of the emperor.

Third is the peasants where they had two jobs and no rights.

Fourth is the Merchants doing trading and expanding exports.

Last not even a class is the soldiers and servants of the rich.

WHO HAS POWER?

The emperor got rid of a lot of power from the people from all social classes.

Nobles lost their land and other rights.

Peasants had only two kinds of jobs farming or silk making no other jobs.

Teachers and scholars were forced to burn books and write only what the emperor wanted.

GREAT WALL Huge of amount of people and money was put into building the wall to protect against the

northern horse men.

The wall meant to protect all of China and to be built around all of China.

Forced labor was the major way of being built and many died building the wall.

LAWS AND OTHER CHANGES Huge amount of police and very harsh laws.

Applied to everyone except the emperor.

You had to follow them or be punished.

Make a standardized system of trade and made the first set of money in China.

Large spy system to watch everyone.

AFTER QIN AND HIS SON’S RULE

In the end he died and even when he was alive he believed he was a good man.

Died in 210 BC and had his son take over the empire.

His son ruled a short amount of time due to huge amounts of rebels propping up and breaking up the empire into small states again.

One man wins against all others and starts the Han dynasty.
