Putnam County School System 2015 Student Opportunities Students who choose Culinary as their program of study could have a career in many areas including chef, steward, hotel manager, food critic and many more. They also are given the opportunity to gain leadership skills in class with Iron Chef competitions, wedding cake and cookie bake os, and through FCCLA competitions. Students gain hands- on banquet management, serving, and food services experiences from supervised catering of local and regional events. These opportunities develop highly transferable skills in collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. The mission of Career and Technical Education is to enhance the economic development process by providing persons of all age, social-economic status and learning potential opportunities to acquire career competencies for the workplace and foundation for career development through matriculation to higher education. This certification if required for students to work as servers in the restaurant industry. ServSave: This managerial certification provides a pay raise for students when seeking employment and provides three hours of credit at certain culinary schools around the US. Competitions Our students often have the chance to shine at national Career Development Events through (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) FCCLA competitions. Categories include team culinary events, knife skills, chicken fabrication, and food art and presentation with the possibility to win college scholarships.
