Description

Model3003isaRapidExchange®purgingsystemthatoperatesonasupplyofcompressedinstrumentairorinertgas.Itregulatesandmonitorspressurewithinsealedprotectedenclosure(s),inordertoremoveandpreventflammablegasorvaporaccumulations.TheModel3003consistsofthreemajorcomponents:(1)apneumaticmanifoldassembly,(2)adifferentialenclosurepressureindicatorand(3)astainlesssteelfaceplatewithmountingflange,oraLexan®systemstartupinstructionnameplate.Model3003isofferedinthreedistinctvariations,identifiedas"VM"(VerticalMount),"HM"(HorizontalMount),bothavailableinWPS&WPSAstyles,and"CK"(ComponentKit)mountingconfigurations.TheVMconfigurationfeaturesafilterregulatorandfaceplatewithaflangeformountingtoaverticalsurface.TheHMconfigurationfeaturesaregulatorandfaceplatewithaflangeformountingonahorizontalsurface.Finally,theCKconfigurationisakitofpartsincludingthepneumaticmanifoldassembly,theenclosurepressureindicatorandastart-upinstructionnameplate.TheVMandHMconfigurationsareintendedforflangeorframemountingtoasolidsurfaceonorneartheprotectedenclosure(s),whiletheCKconfigurationisintendedforframemountingthroughcutoutsinapanelonorneartheenclosure(s).WiththeadditionofaModelGCKgaugeconversionkit,allconfigurationscanbemountedthroughthesurfaceofaprotectedenclosure.TheCKconfigurationprovidesasealthatwithstandstype4hosedowntesting.Model3003accomplishestherequiredvolumeexchangesandmaintainsasafepressure.Pepperl+FuchsModelEPV-3enclosureprotectionventisrequiredforproperoperation.Thisprocessreducesthehazardous(classified)arearatingwithinprotectedenclosure(s),inaccordancewiththeNEC-NFPA70,NFPA496,ISA12.4andIEC60079-15EN50021.

Operation

Inaccordancewithsysteminstructions,start-uprequiresairsupplytobeengagedandenclosurepowertobedeenergized.Theenclosureprotectionventmustbetestedandenclosure(s)mustbesealed.Aftertransferringthevalvekey,lockedintothepneumaticmanifold'sRapidExchange®controlvalvestem,theenclosurepressurecontrolvalveisusedtosetasafereadingontheenclosurepressureindicator.Whensafepressureisstable,thevalvekeyistransferredandlockedintotheRapidExchangecontrolvalvestemandtheRapidExchangecontrolvalveisthenfullyengaged.UponcompletionoftheRapidExchangecycle,(fiveminutesminimum)theRapidExchangecontrolvalveisdisengagedtoreturntoasafeenclosurepressure.Powercanthenbeenergizedtotheprotectedenclosure(s).Lossofsafepressurerequiresimmediateattention,unlesspowertotheprotectedenclosure(s)isdeenergized.WPSandWPSAstylesystemsincludeanexplosionproofdifferentialpressureswitchwithform"C"contactsforaudibleorvisualalarmsystems.

Thecoolerindicatorgauge,sometimescalledtheVortexindicatorgauge,isusedonsystemswerethereiscoolingrequiredafterpurging.Normallyafterthepurgingcycle,thereisasmallflowofprotectivegasrequiredtocompensateforleakages,andtokeepaconstantpressurewithintheenclosuresothattheingressofhazardousatmospherecannotgetinsidetheenclosure.Thisisknownaspressurization.Iftheequipmentinsidethepressurizedenclosurerequirescooling,eitherahigherflowrateofprotectivegasisrequiredthroughthepressurizationvalve,orasecondsourceofcoolinggasisintroducedintotheenclosure.Thestandarddifferentialpressuregaugewillindicatepressurizationonlyupto0.5inches(13mm)water,whichmaynotbeenoughforcoolingindication.Thecoolerindicatorgaugeisinstalledontothepressurization/purgepanel,andallowsmonitoringofthesystemduringnormaloperationofthepurge/pressurizationsystem.
