Puppy Pit Stop

We have had some safety concerns regarding dogs in our school yard. Dogs are not allowed

to run off the lead in the school grounds and should be restricted to our “Puppy Pitstop” area

on the top terrace. Please remember, not all kids like dogs and can be frightened, no matter

how friendly the dog.

Congratulations to our Preps, their parents and their teachers for reaching 100 Days at school tomorrow. It is fabulous to see the growth in our youngest students and the wonderful way they have settled into school life. Thank you to everyone involved in making our Prep Centre a

fabulous place to work and learn.

Thank you and well done also to our Grandparents who joined us for our annual “Grandparents Day” with our Prep team. I hope you all enjoyed sharing your experiences with our students, as much as they enjoyed you

being in the classrooms. The delight on their faces was a joy to see!

We are continuing our work on establishing a positive, proactive school-wide behaviour management practice across our school as part of our work with SWPBS. Attached to the newsletter is a draft copy of our behaviour Matrix aimed at building school wide routines and consistent expectations of behaviour across our school. The program relies on all staff, students and parents working together to improve the social culture, and the teaching and learning environment of our school, whilst providing individual behaviour supports needed to achieve academic

and social success for all students.

Using the feedback we have received from our staff, students and parents we have settled on our three new value statements – “I show respect”, “ I am safe”, and “I take responsibility”. The aim was to make them simple to understand for everyone, and to match them with specific behaviours that everyone can be successful at achieving. We are currently working on producing some visual characters to go with our Value

Statements which will make it even easier for students to identify with. Feedback on the Matrix returned to the office will be welcomed.

There are so many extra-curricular activities still to come this term that it is difficult to keep track of them all. Please make sure you have these

entered on your calendar so that your child doesn’t miss out on anything.

We are still seeking a co-ordinator and volunteer parents to take on the management of head lice checks each

On Tuesday, 19th of July (next week) Manifold Heights PS is taking part in a food relief appeal. Below are the details.

The Geelong Food Relief Centre has been providing free food to those in need for 23 years. Working together with welfare agencies, last year we saw

9,078 families referred to the Centre for support.

Manifold Heights PS is one of the 80 or so schools in Geelong and the surrounding region, who every year help us make this

possible. Each individual donation makes its way on to a family’s table. This could be a family in your street. This year the

Junior School Council are asking you to donate items the Geelong Food Relief Centre are always in need of. These items

form some of the basic food item most families choose. The Junior School Council thank you for your support and assure

you it will really make a difference to someone in our community.

So, yes it’s called the Toucan Appeal, but this year we want you to think outside the can!

We love to get:

Rice Milo Powdered Milk Pasta Sauce

Cereal Vegemite Sugar Honey

Canned fish Peanut Butter UHT Milk Flour Thank you - Junior School Council

Working With Children Check (WWCC) Volunteers are an important and very much appreciated service to any school community. In accordance with DEECD

Policy, to be a volunteer at a school a Working with Children Check (WWCC) provided by the Department of Justice is

required. Parent Helpers assisting students within the classroom setting and under the guidance of the classroom teacher

are not required to obtain a WWCC. However, when working outside the school setting (e.g. excursions, swimming

program, Queenscliff Bike Ride) volunteers and parent helpers will be required to provide their Working With Children Card

to the office. Major activities like the Queenscliff Bike Ride rely heavily on parent helpers/volunteers and wouldn’t be able

to go ahead without the support of our community. If you would like to help at future school events like this, please start

the application process now to obtain your Working With Children Check. There is NO COST for a Volunteer check and the

application form can be accessed online at: https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/wwccu/onlineapplication.doj

Preps - Term 3 Inquiry! Jennie Jeppeson (mum of Juliet in PS) came along to make

a presentation to the Prep students on Tuesday. Jennie is a

PHD Student studying and teaching History at Melbourne

University, and was keen to help the students explore their

term 3 Inquiry, how toys have changed over time.

The students were shown a timeline of when toys were

invented and learnt that lots of children had to make their own toys and

games in the past.

Here are some of their thoughts:

Alexa PS: Some people used to make their own toys in the old days.

Esther PH: Kids used to make toys and I really liked making the peg dolls.

Kale PA: We saw pictures of old teddies and I liked the peg dolls.
