peaking Competition
Who can enter?
All students in year 10 or 11 in 2015 who are living in D
istrict 9650 can enter this com
petition. The Rotary C
lub that nominates you w
ill offer support and assistance during the com
petition. W
hy is this competition run?
The competition is one of R
otary’s youth programs, aim
ed at giving high school students the opportunity to broaden their public speaking experience. Students w
ill deliver a 5 minute prepared speech. The com
petition will be
split into two sections w
hen students reach the semi-finals—
their prepared speech and a 2 m
inute improm
ptu speech. H
ow is the com
petition run? Students m
ust be nominated by their local R
otary Club. This entry m
ust be to the club by the 18th August for selection at club level by August 30. If each C
lub in your town has m
ore than one entrant, a competition
between those entrants w
ill take place at a designated meeting of that C
lub in August. The C
lub’s entrant will then go on to com
pete in the Cluster
competition by the end of O
ctober. Winners in each C
luster will then
compete in the C
luster Final to be held in Walcha on Saturday 18 February
2017, to select the four entrants who w
ill compete (on a day to be
designated) at the District C
onference to be held in Laurieton in March
2017 The Prize The w

Sydney to New
Zealand, courtesy of Travel 195, and w
ill be hosted by Rotarians in N
ew
Zealand. W
hat topics can you choose? You can choose any topic for your prepared speech, but it m
ust relate to one or m
ore principles of the Rotary Four-W
ay Test. This test is the principle by w
hich Rotarians test their ow
n comm
itment to the objects of
Rotary.
