ABOUT NIA
National Insurance Academy was established in the year 1980 under the joint aegis of Ministry of Finance (Government of India),LIC, GIC of
India and Public sector insurance companies. It is the prime destination for Education, Research, Training, Consultancy, Leadership
Development and Publication in Insurance Pension and Risk Management in the Asia Pacific region.
A major activity at National Insurance Academy, Pune has been designing, developing and conducting innovative Management
Development Programmes (MDPs) for professionalizing management in India.
The Post Graduate Programme started in 2004 with specialization in Insurance & Management, is a blend of technical competence in
insurance, proactively seeking knowledge ability, creative problem solving approach with managerial foresight to meet the growing needs
of today's business world. It inculcates human values and professional ethics in the students through a fine tuned curriculum that balances
academic rigour with co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Our PGDM programme is Equivalent to MBA approved by AIU
(Association of Indian universities)

National Insurance Academy (NIA) was constituted in 1980 jointly by Ministry of Finance, Government of
India and all public sector insurance companies. NIA is a premier institution in the field of education, training
and research in insurance, pension and allied areas. NIA has been conducting Management Development
Programmes, seminars and workshops for development of knowledge and skills of executives working in
the insurance industry since the year 1981.
With the opening up of insurance sector in the year 2000, there has been a tremendous demand of skilled
professionals in Insurance, Risk Management, Actuarial Sciences and Social Sector Enterprise. NIA aims at
meeting this demand through its insurance specialized Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM)
course with a comprehensive curriculum in Insurance and management ( AICTE approved). This two year
full time residential PGDM course is designed to fulfil the requirements of insurance industry. The
Academys close association with Indian Insurance industry has provided much needed real life reference
to its pedagogy and ensured that management thinking remains infused with practical relevance. The
enviable record of placements of the students with reputed employers is a testimony of the quality of the
PGDM programme offered by the Academy.
NIA offers its students various opportunities to participate and excel in several academic, co-curricular
activities and also provides broader exposure through workshops and seminars. NIA lays great importance
on all round personality development of its students. The environment at the Academy encourages and
facilitates the students to change themselves at every stage. NIA provides its students a platform to
recognize their strength and inherent potential and aims at realizing it to its fullest.
The sprawling campus of NIA spread over approx. 32 acres along with latest facilities available in teaching
and extra-curricular activities including a state-of-the-art gymnasium and swimming pool and a well-
equipped hostel accommodation, is an ideal institution for students serious in pursuing their career in
Insurance, Pension and Management.

ADMISSION AND ACADEMICS
The candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks obtained in the Bachelor degree examination.
Students appearing for final year can apply subject to declaration of their examinationby June 30, 2015.
NIA will follow Reservation policy as per the provisions of the Indian constitution.
Selection to NIA is a process based on the following steps :

Fee structure
Rs. 9,68,000/- for the entire programme. The fee structure comprises tuition fee, hostel fee (lodging as well as boarding) professional and
incidental expenditure on account of programme.
Academic Programme
NIA offers Two year Full time Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) which is divided into six trimesters of 3 months each and is
designed to train and groom the future managers. The course offers dual expertise in Insurance and Management with various electives like
(Marketing/Finance/HR/IT).

Students of NIA on completion of PGDM have exemption in Associateship examination conducted by Insurance Institute of India.

INFRASTRUCTURE / FACILITIES
Academic Infrastructure
There are eight lecture halls equipped with computer, cordless mike systems and OHP/LCD projectors. In addition, there are eight syndicate
rooms to facilitate group discussions, case studies presentations and deliberations.
NIA Convention Centre
NIA also has a best in class auditorium with a seating capacity of 220 with excellent audio video system.
Hostel
The students hostel "Sarvapalli" has around 62 fully furnished rooms with a dining hall "ADOP" . For the
students who could not be accommodated in the campus hostel are being accommodated in a privately run
fully furnished hostel.

Bank and Post Facilities
Bank of Maharashtra and NIA Post Office are located near the main gate of the campus for banking (forex services also available) and postal
needs.
Jogging Track and GIC Pathway
The 1.5 kms jogging track encircling the campus is a wonderful way to breathe fresh air and hear chirping of birds. The GIC Pathway close to
sporting complex is a water-fed pathway with gravel for acupressure therapy.
Sports and Recreation
The multipurpose sporting complex has facilities for badminton, table tennis, swimming, billiards, basket ball, state-of-the-art-gymnasium,
sauna, Jacuzzi. There is a ground for playing cricket and football too.
NIA Library
NIA Library is fully equipped to quench the thirst for knowledge of the future leaders of the Insurance industry. It is one of the finest
libraries in India having the choicest collection of books both in life and non-life insurance areas. The reading room of this library boasts of
almost all national and international journals in insurance, Actuarial Science, Pensions and related areas including journals for general
awareness and entertainment. A variety of the research publications add further value to this already rich knowledge bank.

Computer Centre and Wi-Fi
NIA has a Windows based LAN, connected to 400 Pentium terminals spread all over the establishments. The Academy has 3 classrooms for
IT training having 120 terminals offering facilities like electronic mail, internet browsing.
