Welcome!To our guests,

On behalf of the entire Amazon Web Services (AWS) Worldwide Public Sector team, welcome to the 2019 AWS Public Sector Summit in Washington, DC! This year’s conference is going to be our biggest yet with more than 13,000 attendees and 160 knowledge sessions.

To get the most out of the Public Sector Summit, we encourage you to take advantage of the resources outlined in this document. You can start planning your schedule at any time by logging into your account, visiting the session catalog, and marking sessions of interest.

Although the AWS Public Sector Summit DC is a big conference, the strength of the public sector community makes it feel much smaller.

We look forward to seeing you in Washington, DC!

Silent Disco Sessions

© 2019 | Amazon Web Services. All rights reserved.

Silent Disco Sessions are a new format this year at the DC Summit. In the Ballroom on Level 3, five breakout sessions will be running simultaneously across five different stagesthroughout the main conference days. Unlike regular breakout sessions, the microphones do not project, but rather feed into headphones that line the corresponding seats in front of each session’s stage.

Just like an actual silent disco, you can tune into the speaker by selecting one of the provided headphones. Stages are lit up in different colors, which correspond to the signage, the headphones, and the mobile app. Check out this new format onsite and let us know what you think in the mobile app survey!

Types of sessions

Workshop

Workshops are two-hour, hands-on sessions where you work in teams tosolve problems using AWS. Workshops organize attendees into smallgroups and provide scenarios to encourage interaction, giving you theopportunity to learn from and teach each other. AWS will provide credits.

Chalk talks are a highly interactive content format with a smaller audience. They begin with a 10–15-minute lecture delivered by an AWS expert, followed by a 45–50-minute Q&A session with the audience. The goal is to foster a technical discussion around real-world architecture challenges.

Bootcamps provide an opportunity to dive deep into existing and new ways to work with AWS. These full-day and half-day training sessions will be delivered by experienced AWS instructors and solution architects.

Using AWS to Enable Data Driven Decision Making at the Nation’s Cultural Center

FEATURED SPEAKERS: Jamie Shover | Nicole Weaver – Chief Strategy Officer & CIO, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

The Kennedy Center’s strategic plan calls for much more rigorous and comprehensive data informed decision making than we have been capable of in the past. Faced with an existing data warehouse that was outdated in design, housed on aging hardware and which performed poorly, the Kennedy Center undertook a “giant sprint” modernization project. This solution not only alleviates the risk associated with aging hardware and a single instance, but also provides a foundation for a massively more flexible and adaptable ecosystem for exploration, analysis, reporting, and predictive modeling.
