    Milford Haven and surrounding area

    Milford Haven and

The fishing industry boomed in Milford andit was one of the chief fishing ports ofBritain. The landing of sixty thousand tonsof fish in 1946 was the highest recorded;however, the industry has steadily declined.Today a Fisherman Statue on thepromenade reminds the public of thesignificance of the fishing industry.

Today the beautiful Milford Haven is abusy waterway offering visitors the chance

    Haverfordwest and

In local dialect, it is pronounced" harford" . Another claim is that Tudorperiod monarchs called it " Hereford in theWest" , to distinguish it from the EnglishHereford in Herefordshire.

Visitors to Haverfordwest, the county town, are greeted by the ruins of the castle beforeproceeding into the town which lies on thetidal Cleddau River. The narrow twistingstreets and main high street house a mixtureof traditional buildings, shops, cafes and acinema.
