PSI Weekly Issue #26 17/04/2015A Place Where We Belong

From the Secondary PrincipalDear Parents:

The excitement in the air as students prepared to show you their portfolios was quite evident! I trust you enjoyed seeing all the progress your child made this year as well as their reflections. On Thursday, 23rd April, we have Exhibition Day. This day is the culmination of all the work students

in Grade 5 have done in their years as PYP students, as well as over the past weeks as they investigated a Global Issue related to their passion. Students wrote reports, kept a journal, carried out an action plan and created an artistic presentation. Even if your child is not in 5th grade, I encourage you to visit the gym and see all the displays prepared by students. I will be away Monday-Wednesday visiting a PYP Candidate school in Bilbao as part of my work for the IB to support schools wishing to adopt the PYP.

Kind regards, Ms Tatz

Dear Parents:

Welcome back! I hope you and your children have had a good week getting back into the routines of the school day. Next week is our non-ASA week. As always, we have lined up a number of fun activities to support our House programme. Students should check with their homeroom

teachers to find out what’s available so that they can sign up for sports, games or other challenges. On Thursday, 23rd April, our report cards will go out. Reports will be available in Veracross after 4 pm. Please check any Monday homeroom bulletin for directions for logging on and using the system and contact our IT Department ([email protected]) if you have any problems. Don’t forget that on 29th April, we’ll hold our Parent Teacher Conferences. Directions for sign ups will be sent out next week. I look forward to seeing you then.

Regards, Patricia Puia

We understand that the future of our Veracross information is a ‘PSI App’ and so we are investigating this possibility. At this point Veracross does offer a mobile or smartphone version. Here is the link to the Veracross Mobile Web that we are currently trialing - https://m.veracross.com/psi/login. Login information is the same as for the desktop version of Veracross. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated during April and May to [email protected] Main features include: Events for the Day, School Calendars, School Directory Information and Report Cards (where applicable).

From the Counsellor Stresses of academics and social situations often can impact individuals or relationships. When young people struggle with stress, it’s hard to know where and how to get help. To make this easier, PSI introduces Safety Net.Safety Net is a link that is now located on student, parent and teacher home pages in Veracross in the Links section. Anyone who has a concern about a particular student or a student who has personal

concerns can click on the link labelled ‘Safety Net.’ This will lead to a short Google form to be completed and submitted. Once submitted, an email will be sent to the counsellors who can then address the concern in the appropriate manner by speaking with the student and helping with strategies. The Safety Net form is completely secure and allows the concerns to be voiced without necessarily going to a counsellor’s office. It is a valuable tool that we hope can help everyone feel comfortable to reach out.

Dear Secondary Parents:On Thursday, 23rd April, you will get an email with the directions for how to access your child’s 3rd Quarter Report card in Veracross and how to sign up for the Secondary Parent Teacher Conference on Wednesday, 29th April from 1pm-5pm.Sign up for the Parent Teacher Conference will ‘GO LIVE’ from Thursday, 23rd April at 4pm until Tuesday,

28th April at 1pm.On Wednesday, 29th April, school will finish for Secondary Students at 11:25am. There will be the usual full lunch service available until 12:00. School Bus transport will depart at 12:00 hours. The Primary School day will be unchanged. There will be No ASAs for Primary or Secondary Students on Wednesday, April 29th.
