76 12pm Travel With my sister in tow we’re on the road from Dublin and set ourselves up with good books and snacks for the trip. Once we arrive, the hotel is only a 15-minute walk away but we can’t wait so hop in a taxi. We relax for the evening in the Weir Bar and enjoy dinner at the Weir Bistro before an early night in preparation for the next day. 8am Leisure centre After a fantastic night’s sleep, I begin my day with a visit to the leisure centre for a swim. Complete with sauna, steam room, solarium and jacuzzi, the hotel also offers a gym and spa. I do enough laps to justify a big breakfast. At least that’s what I tell myself anyway. 10am Breakfast Completely rejuvenated, we treat ourselves to a delicious full Irish buffet breakfast at the Weir Bistro with a coffee and are all set for our day of exploring. 12 noon English Market This market is an absolute must for anyone visiting Cork. I was totally up for capturing the buzz of this place and finding locally- produced, fresh vegetables and fruit, chocolates, olives and cheeses. Not just a shopping area, locals use the market as a place to catch up with friends. The English Market, www.corkenglishmarket.ie 2pm Lunch We stop for lunch in the Pavilion down an alley just off Patrick’s Street. With lunch prices from €5 to €9, this place is great value and also has free Wifi, a charming atmosphere and very friendly staff.
