Change has a significant psychological impact on the human mind. It is threatening to the fearful

because it means that things may get worse. To an optimistic it is encouraging because he

expects things to get better. To the confident person the change is inspiring because he enjoys

taking up the challenge to make things better. Change in any case is going to be there, because

Change is one thing in life which is constant so it is better to be prepared to face the change and

use it as an opportunity. It is true with every organization and the individual but more apt for us -

the communication and public relations people.

We have to accept now that the public relations function is growing with the growing business

communication and we need to work as change-agents instead of waiting for things to happen.

Whatever we do we need to make it measurable to justify our efforts. It may be little difficult to

provide some measurements to all our activities but there should be a serious will to make it

measurable. Let us be more accountable to what we are doing. Unless our efforts are adding

value to the organizational march to realize its vision and mission we cannot earn respect for the

    profession.

Improvement is a sustained process and benchmarking of best practices gives us an opportunity

to know about the best in the industry and to identify the gaps between the existing and the

    desired level of performance.

Let us work together to achieve Better than the Best.

    Dr. Ajit Pathak
