The classes are a collabo rative effort bet ween the Liberal Studie s Department, the Office of International Programs and through the strategic plan to usher in a new internat ional era and cultur e at Kettering implemented by Provost Michael Harris (News- Alert). They are being piloted in response to interest from students and the Student Academic Council of Kettering Student Government (KSG). Dr. Karen Wilkinson, head of the Liberal Studies Department, said "it was apparent there was student interest and support for foreign-language-for- credit at Kettering," following an Academic Council forum to discuss the issue. "We believed the only way to know if the interest would actually supp ort foreign language courses was to offer pilot classes," Harris said, noting the languages were selected based on Kettering's current exchange programs with German universitie s and its increasing growth and activit y in China.
