Producing a Quote

Aims

To prepare materials lists for a bathroom installation

o The task requires the learner to calculate the amount of materials

needed and the cost of those materials using a range of maths

skills. You will also need to work out how much VAT is to be added

and how much the plumbers will get paid at the end of the job.

Outcomes

o By the end of this session all should be able to:

o Correctly identify how much materials will be needed for the

bathroom task

o Demonstrate the ability to select the correct information from tables

to work out costs.

o Use percentages to calculate how much VAT will be added onto the

cost.

IntroductionMr Goodwin has purchased a three bedroom house to renovate and will sell it

again later, when work has been finished on it. The house was bought at a

reduced price because there was a lot of work to be done to it.

Mr Goodwin has asked a local plumbing firm (B. Friendly Ltd.,) to install a new

bathroom in the house and work will include the following:-

1. Remove the existing bathroom suite and

associated pipe-work.

2. Installation of the new bathroom suite and new

pipes.

Reading the Plans

Before you undertake any work it’s very important to read any instructions you

may have – especially plans. Plans are designed to tell you where everything

must go and help you to estimate what you will need to do the work. On the next

page you will find a plan for Mr Goodwin’s bathroom. Study the plan layout of the

bathroom and pay particular attention to the following:

1 x apprentice @ - £12.00 / hour

Work Schedule

Below are the estimated times which will be allocated to each phase of the job:

Removal of existing bathroom suite – 4 hours

Installation of new bathroom suite – 10 hours

Final fix ( bath panel, cleaning etc.,) and testing of installation – 2 hours
