Create the new task and double-click it:
Set it to “Auto Scheduled” mode: Set it to “Fixed Duration”
Set only a “Start” date and a “Duration” – The “Finish” will be calculated by Project:

Assign some Work Resources:
3. Assign an “Actual Start” date
Add a new column for “Actual Start”:
Set the “Actual Start” date to equal the “Start” date:
4a. Track Progress in Project Online
Log into Office 365 Projects and navigate to the Timesheet:
Enter “Actual Work” for a date after the “Start” date:
Turn in the Final Timesheet for Approval:
After the Timesheet has been approved, note that the “Start” date didn’t change:

Right-click in the Task Usage View and select “Actual Work”: Enter some “Actual Work”:
