Project 3: Mythical Creatures

ORIGINAL INTENTIONS FOR THE PROJECT: My original intentions for this project was to concentrate on the study of light, the refraction of light in water and the variety of colours that can be created using water with light. I had ideas of setting up a tank of water in a dark room, while using a laser and setting a long exposure to produce interesting results. I then left that idea and considered conveying mythical creatures through the same technique of a long exposure but using cellophane and a single source of light to portray them as abstract beings. REFLECTION: For the final project I focused primarily on making realistic colours and portraying the creatures as best I could. I found that each image was best painted in a dark room without any source of light, and the shutter open for a consistent amount of time. Changes in these values will vary the light intake from image to image. An interesting point to note is that some of the photos are the LED’s reflections on the cellophane rather than the LED being placed behind the cellophane. This provides a different effect and works well on the creatures that require less colours like the Werewolf and Yeti.
