DESCRIPTIONThe TM1600 circuit breaker analyzer collects required dataduring the circuit breaker operation. In the normalapplication, the timing channels record closings andopenings of main contacts, resistor contacts and auxiliarycontacts. The analog channels records the coil current andcontact travel. The data can be transmitted to the CabaWinsoftware or printed as numeric values as well as graphiccurves on a built-in printer.

Powerful accessories can be used for more advancedanalysis such as DRM measurements and Vibrationanalysis.

A sequence unit allows the user to select the desiredoperation sequence and set its control pulses. The pulselength and delay between pulses are adjustable by theuser either from the top panel or from the software. Thebreaker operation unit can operate coil currents up to 25A. The solid state relay operates the coil and start thetiming at the time the voltage is applied to the coil whichallows for accurate and repeatable timing results.

The TM1600 can be equipped with up to 24 timingchannels that can be used by connecting multiple TM1600units in series.

TM1600’s modular design makes it easy to equip thesystem with the MA61™ Motion Analyzer for up to 6analog channels. These channels are used to capture thecoil current and/or contact travel.

The CABA Win™ Breaker Analysis Software is used toorganize test objects and test data, control the analyzer andcalculate critical parameters to simplify data analysis afterthe test using powerful test plans and user friendly analysistools.

The flexible and modular design makes it possible toconfigure the system with only the modules you need tomake testing easy, flexible and reliable.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS• The TM1600 can perform timing, travel and motion tests

including dynamic resistance test and coil currentmeasurements.

• The instrument is lightweight and portable.

• Using the optional MA61 Motion Analyzer, theinstrument can be configured to monitor voltage, current, and/or vibration channels as analog inputs.

• With the built-in fiber optic interface, the instrument cancommunicate with the powerful CABA Win softwareplatform and store the results on the computer for futurereview and analysis.

• Quick and easy testing – simply turn theoperate/measure knob to operate the breaker and theresults can be analyzed on a PC/laptop immediately afterthe breaker operation.

APPLICATION

SetupThe illustration below shows a typical breaker test hookup.

PreparationSet the desired breaker operating sequence on theTM1600; in this case, CLOSE-OPEN (C-O).

RecordingPress the READY button to get the analyzer ready tocapture the test. Operate the breaker and start themeasurement simultaneously by turning the START switch.

Test reportThe result is printed automatically. This example shows aCLOSEOPEN (C-O) sequence presented in the report 1format (85 % of actual size). Only the initial contact closingtime (for CLOSE) and final contact separation time (forOPEN) are presented in the report 1 format. Short bouncesare suppressed.

SetupConnect the transducers to the circuit breaker.

Preparation of the MA61The following additional settings are needed when youadd motion recordings. These settings are menu driven viathe built-in display on the MA61.

1. Select test interval (50 ms to 1 s).

2. Calibrate the input(s) connected to the positiontransducer(s) as follows:

a) Close the circuit breaker. b) Record the closed position via a menu option.c) Open the circuit breaker.d) Record the open position.e) Estimate or measure breaker stroke. Enter the

value.f) Enter speed calculation parameters.

3. Enter the current range and the scale factor for thecurrent shunt (if recorded).

4. Enter range and scale factor for other transducers (if recorded).

RecordingPress the READY button to get the analyzer ready tocapture the test. Operate the breaker and start themeasurement on all channels simultaneously by turningthe START switch.

Test reportThe motion recording report includes both curves and atable. The table presents calculated breaker parameterssuch as closing speed, opening speed, overtravel andpenetration.

The diagram shows one or more time/amplitude curvesand the calculated breaker parameters. The time axis scalefactor can be changed to provide you with a quickoverview or an enlarged view of part of the diagram.

The position of the curve in the diagram and theamplitude scale factor can also be changed to optimizeuse of the available space.

MA61 MOTION ANALYZERThe MA61 Motion Analyzer is an excellent complement tothe TM1600. It combines the easy readability of anoscillograph with the extra accuracy ensured bycomputerized measurement and computer-processedreadings. Menu-driven button selection via the built-indisplay makes stand-alone operation easy.

The MA61 can be equipped with up to 6 analog channels, and can be easily adapted to the different measurementrequirements for high-voltage circuit breaker testing. It canmeasure and calculate contact paths and the speeds atwhich breaker contacts operate as well as the current inoperating coils. It can also measure dynamic resistance(DRM), voltage, pressure, vibration signals and otheranalog entities.

After measurement, the MA61 performs the necessarycalculations and prints results in both diagram and tableform on a connected printer or on the TM1600’s built-inprinter. Selected segments of a curves can be enlarged forbetter analysis.

The MA61 incorporates a battery-backed memory that canstore up to ten measurements for subsequent processing.
