This Program of Excellence Enrolment Guide provides more details on how to apply and what ADDITIONAL documents and processes are required.
Please note that all students still need to complete and submit the Enrolment Application Booklet – Year 7 2021 by 5pm Monday 8 June 2020.
Most students will enrol in our Mainstream Program
You may want to consider one of our Programs of Excellence
German Immersion and Extension (GIEP). Academic excellence connecting the world. Students study up to 65% of their learning through the German language in a challenging but supportive environment. There is a two month exchange in Term 4 of Year 10.
Music Extension (MEX) is specifically designed to extend students who have already developed sound music reading and performing skills. All students in a band/choir/ orchestra are encouraged to apply.
Ken-X program for high achieving students who want to work with like-minded students in the pursuit of excellence. Ken-X immerses students in real-world problem solving, developing students’ innovation and creativity.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I have a child that wants to join a Program of Excellence such as Ken-X, MEX and GIEP. What are the selection criteria and entry processes?
Read the Enrolment Flowchart and the subsequent pages in this Program of Excellence Enrolment Guide, it will outline the documentation required to apply for excellence programs.

How many places are offered in Ken-X, MEX & GIEP?
Our Enrolment Management Plan (EMP) provides for up to two (2) classes of each program of excellence per year level. GIEP – up to 2 classes MEX – up to 2 classes Ken-X – up to 2 classes
What combinations of excellence programs can my child do?
Whilst you may apply for all programs of excellence, only the following combinations are available. GIEP/MEX Ken-X/MEX
How do I know if I live in the catchment area, and can I still apply if I live outside the catchment?
See the Kenmore SHS website and it will provide links to the Education Queensland site that outlines all the policies regarding catchment area and exemption criteria. All students can make an application to the school. However, priority is given to in-catchment enrolments and remaining students are considered using a fair process.
If my child is in a Program of Excellence, how is their timetable structure different from mainstream classes?
There is an excellent comparison of timetable structures at the front of the Junior Secondary Curriculum Handbook. You will be able to compare across courses and with the mainstream timetable.
If my child does Music Extension or German Immersion and Extension, how does that affect how many ‘elective’ subjects they can choose?
The comparison tables in the Junior Secondary Curriculum Handbook clearly show this information.
I have read the Music Extension information but I am still not sure if my child would have the necessary skills. What should I do?
Apply anyway – complete the MEX application form and submit with required audition videos and supporting documentation.
When are we notified regarding the outcome of our application to the school?
Ken-X shortlisted students will receive notification in the week closing 12th June. A general letter confirming a place for in-catchment and previously accepted GIEP students will be sent in the week commencing 15th June. This letter will make no reference to other signature programs. A subsequent letter will be sent making Round 1 offers to students who have applied for Ken-X/MEX/GIEP in the week beginning 22nd June. Acceptance/non-acceptance of these offers are due by 17th July. Round 2 offers will be sent the week beginning 20th July. Acceptance/non-acceptance of these offers are due 7th August. Final offers will be sent in the week commencing 17th August.
Am I advantaged by doing an early interview?
Late enrolments from International arrivals and interstate arrivals will be accommodated as necessary, but no guarantees can be made regarding entry into Programs of Excellence. Late applications will be added to a pending list for later consideration should the opportunity arise.

PROGRAMS OF EXCELLENCE – 2021 ENROLMENT PROCESSES
Enrolment Process 1. Obtain a GIEP Application Form for 2021 from the Kenmore SHS website: www.kenmoreshs.eq.edu.au
Click onto ‘Enrolments’ then onto ‘Enrolling at our school’. On the right hand side you will find the ‘related links’ with the GIEP Application Form for 2021. Alternately, phone the GIEP Admin Officer on (07) 3327 1538. Your primary school will also have been supplied with application forms.
2. Please note there is a section on the GIEP Application Form for 2021 that is required to be completed by your primary school. This primary school recommendation must be completed with enough time for you to submit your final application form by 5.00PM Monday 8 June, 2020.
3. Send your completed GIEP Application Form for 2021 to Snjezana [email protected] by 5.00PM MONDAY 8 JUNE 2020.
4. You will be contacted to arrange and attend a GIEP interview, which will be held on Saturday 13 June 2020. Come prepared to talk about the pre-set questions (these will be given to the applicant before the interview), and with completed documentation, photocopies of recent reports and NAPLAN results.
5. Read the Parent Information Handbook which can be found on the Kenmore SHS website.
6. Complete and submit the Enrolment Application Booklet - Year 7, 2021 by 5.00PM MONDAY 8 June, 2020. This is mandatory, and your place at the school will not be confirmed until this process is complete.

Enrolment Process 1. Follow the steps for GIEP as above.
2. Complete the MEX Application Form for 2021 and required supporting documentation. To apply for the MEX program you will need to supply documentation to provide evidence as to the performance standard of the student (see MEX details on page 6).

Enrolment Process
1. Read the Parent Information Handbook which can be found on the Kenmore SHS website: www.kenmoreshs.eq.edu.au
2. Complete the Enrolment Application Booklet – Year 7, 2021 and submit booklet with all supporting documentation according to the instructions provided. Be sure to complete the Program of Excellence EOI (in the Enrolment Application Booklet), indicating your intention to apply for Ken-X.
3. Enrolment applications, including for Programs of Excellence, are due 5.00PM MONDAY 8 JUNE 2020.
Note: On the day of Practical Selection Challenges (Saturday 20 June), you will need to allow 30 minutes to respond to three unseen questions set by the school. Bookings are made online. Shortlisted families will receive communication with instructions.
The points system for rank ordering students is as follows:
• Academic achievement/report cards – 10 points • Behaviour and effort/report cards – 5 points • NAPLAN results – 10 points • Practical Selection Challenges – 15 points
Students applying for Ken-X can expect to receive Round 1 offers in the week beginning 22 June, 2020 (Term 2, Week 10). Acceptance of these offers is due by Friday 17 July, 2020 (Term 3, Week 1).
Round 2 offers for Ken-X will then be sent the week beginning 20 July, 2020 (Term 3, Week 2), with acceptance of the offer due by Friday 7 August, 2020 (Term 3, Week 4).

2. Complete the MEX Application Form for 2021 and required supporting documentation. To apply for the MEX program you will need to supply documentation to provide evidence as to the performance standard of the student (see MEX details on page 6).

Enrolment Process 1. Obtain a MEX Application Form for 2021 from the Kenmore SHS website: www.kenmoreshs.eq.edu.au

2. Complete the MEX Application Form for 2021 and attach scanned photocopies (PDF format) of AMEB certificates, or other certificates that support your application, and upload your audition video/s to OneDrive or Google Drive (see instructions on pages 7-13).
3. Read the Parent Information Handbook which can be found on the Kenmore SHS website.
4. Complete and submit the Enrolment Application Booklet - Year 7, 2021 and MEX Application Form for 2021 with supporting documentation by 5.00PM MONDAY 8 June, 2020.
Admission Process for Music Extension 2021 5. Once you have submitted your Enrolment Application Booklet – Year 7, 2021 and MEX Application Form
for 2021 with supporting documentation and audition video, a panel will then meet to review applications. However, the panel may request some applicants attend a face to face audition. Notification will be provided to these audition applicants by email.
6. Round 1 offers will be made via the school administration in the week beginning 22nd June. A subsequent round offer will occur in the week commencing 20th July.
Supporting Documentation
• One audition video (1-2 minutes – perform a piece that is indicative of your current standard)
• Two musicianship videos (solfa singing exercise & scale with ostinato exercise)
Please provide photocopied documentation for as many of the following as appropriate. The central focus of the documentation is to provide evidence as to the performance standard of the student.
• Instrumental Music report from primary school (relevant pages from primary school report). Please note EQ instrumental music staff are not expected to write a reference for their student.
• Achievement Certificates from AMEB or equivalent examination boards for both theory and performance.
• If students have not completed formal music exams, and they are NOT in the primary instrumental program but are having private music lessons, please provide a letter of recommendation from the private music teacher that clearly states the approximate performance standard of the student.
Unsuccessful Applications
• Students who are not successful in gaining a place in the Music Extension Program can study the Year 7 Foundation Music course and are also strongly encouraged to join the instrumental/vocal program.

MEX - Uploading and Sharing Folders from OneDrive
1 – Sign in to OneDrive (create an account if you don’t already have one). https://onedrive.live.com/about/en-au/signin/ 2 – Select ‘New’, then click ‘Folder’. 3 – Name the new folder e.g. John Smith (KSHS MEX Application).
4 – Locate and open this folder. 5 – Select ‘Upload’ then click ‘Files’.

6 – Browse your computer for the saved files (audition videos/musicianship exercises/application form) and select ‘Open’. 7 – Ensure a successful upload select ‘Uploading items’ to see the progress of your upload. 8 – Once all Music Extension application documents (audition videos, musicianship videos, application form) have been uploaded, click the circle in the top right hand corner of the folder, then click ‘Share’.

MEX - Uploading and Sharing Folders from Google Drive
1 – Sign in to Google Drive (create an account if you don’t already have one). Note: you do not have to have a gmail account to access Google Drive. https://www.google.com/drive/ 2 – Select ‘New’ 3 – Select ‘Folder’ 4 – Create and name a new folder e.g. John Smith (KSHS MEX Application).
5 – Locate and open this folder (double click).
6 – Select ‘New’ 7 – Select ‘File upload’
8 – Browse your computer for the saved files (audition videos/musicianship exercises/application form) and select ‘Open’.
9 – Ensure a successful upload see bottom right hand of screen for progress.
10 – Once all Music Extension application documents (audition videos, musicianship videos, application form) have been uploaded, share the folder with Hailey Gibson ([email protected]) then press ‘Send’.
