Programs organized by the Department
1. The department of Mechanical Engineering organized one day Bridge Course on
‘Introduction to Machines’ for Second Year Mechanical Engineering students’ on 5th July
2017. The bridge course of 6 hours was consisted of three sessions: “Introduction to
machines” by Prof. G. J. Abhyankar & Prof. A.S. Yekane, “The arc welding” by Mr. R. V.
Utekar, “Lathe and grinding machines” by Mr. R. R. Bhosale. Mr. A. A. Lingayat gave the
demonstration on radial drilling machine.

2. The Department of Mechanical Engineering conducted two days workshop on “Industrial
Robotics, Motion Control & Mechatronics” from 11th to 12th August 2017 for the students of Third year & Final Year Mechanical Engineering. It was conducted by Mr. Pushpashil M Salunke, Centre Director, PMS Robotics Research Centre, Pune.

3. The department of Mechanical Engineering established Indian Society of Heating
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE) Students Chapter for the academic year
2017-18 in presence of Dr. Kaushal Prasad, Dr. Milind S Kirkire, Prof. Hemant V Chavan (Faculty
Advisor), faculty members of the department and ISHRAE THANE chapter office bearers – Mr.
Bharat Jare (President); Mr. Sandeep Shinde (Student Chair); Mr. Nanadkumar Mahajan (President
elect); Mrs. Nivedita Jadhav (Ex President and National Chair Women ISHRAE), Mr. Amit

4. The department of Mechanical Engineering organized a seminar on “Career Opportunities in
HVAC /MEP” under ISHRAE Students Chapter. ISHRAE office bearers – Mr. Bharat Jare
(President); Mr. Sandeep Shinde (Student Chair); Mr. Nanadkumar Mahajan (President elect);
Mrs. Nivedita Jadhav (Ex President and National Chair Women ISHRAE), Mr. Amit Deshmukh

5. The department of Mechanical Engineering organized two days Workshop on ‘Compressed Air
Network, Maintenance of Pumps and Compressors’ in association with Finolex Industries
Limited, Ratnagiri for final year Mechanical Engineering students. The workshop aimed at
bridging the gap between curriculum and the industry practices in the field of Mechanical Utility
System.

6. FAMT ISHRAE student members attended HVACR Energy Summit 2017 organized by
ISHRAE Thane Chapter on 16th September 2017 at Thane. Ashish Sawant, President FAMT ISHRAE
Student Chapter, Omkar Nanal, Bham Nalawade, Parth Makadia, Aniket Parab and Rushab Rawool
represented FAMT at the summit.
It was focused on energy management and energy efficient systems especially for heat pump, chillers,
cooling tower, operation and maintenance, descaling and water management system. ISHRAE Thane
Chapter President – Mr. Bharat Jare, Student Chair – Mr. Sandeep Shinde, Women in ISHRAE
National Chair – Mrs .Nivedita Jadhav, President Elect – Mr. Nanadkumar Mahajan , Mr. Manish
Gulalakari , Mr. Amit Deshmukh and other office bearers were actively involved in organising this
summit.

7. With an objective of delivering advanced knowledge in the field of internal combustion engines
and to give hands on experience of assembly-dismantling of engines, the department of
Mechanical Engineering in association with SKYFI labs, Bangalore organized two
days Workshop “Internal Combustion Engines – Basics, Advanced and Hands-on” for Third Year
Mechanical Engineering students on 9th and 10th September 2017. Total 54 students registered
and participated in the workshop.

8. The department of Mechanical Engineering conducted a pre placement lecture on ‘Welding’
on 20th September, 2017 for the students of final year Mechanical Engineering. Prof. Pranav P.
Thakur, provided the necessary details about welding and guided the students from placement point of
view. Prof. M L Naik, Prof. P B Horambe, Prof. P S Tupe and Prof. A. M. Date were the coordinators
for this lecture. The session concluded with the vote of thanks by Prof M. L. Naik.

9. Course enrichment program was conducted for B.E. Mechanical students in the subject of
CAD/CAM/CAE (MEC 702) by Prof. V Murali Mohan (Associate Professor, MED) and Prof. Sagar
N. Sakharkar (Assistant Professor, MED) on September 16 and 23, 2017 under the guidance of Dr.
Kaushal Prasad, Principal, and Dr. Milind S. Kirkire (Head, Mechanical Engineering Department).
The aim of this program was to enrich the students in the subject of CAD/CAM/CAE and to enhance
the students’ qualitative analysis abilities in mechanical based application software while working
with different mechanical engineering applications (Thermal, Fluid Flow & Machine components).

10. The department of Mechanical Engineering conducted Parent Meet of S.E. Mechanical Engineering on 23rd September, 2017. Prof J. S. Anavkar welcomed all the parents present for the meet. Dr. M. S. Kirkire (HoD, Mechanical Engg.) introduced all the faculty members and briefed about the department. He also highlighted value added and skill enhancing programs/workshops conducted/organized by the department and discussed the future plans for various value added, add-on courses and its’ importance for future and placement of the students. It was followed by a discussion session in groups between parents and respective mentor/subject teachers viz. Prof. U. D. Gulhane, Prof. M. S. Yadav, Prof. S. S. Mestry, Prof. V. S. Bagade, Prof. G. 11. The department of Mechanical Engineering organized two days Industrial Visit to M/S Georg
Fischer Piping Systems Pvt. Ltd Ratnagiri on 4th & 5th October 2017 for T.E Mechanical
engineering students. The visit was organized with the permission of Dr. Kaushal Prasad,
Principal, and Dr. Milind Kirkire (HoD, Mechanical Engineering Department). Total 125 students
of T.E. Mechanical along with three faculty members visited GF. Entire visit was planned and
coordinated by Prof. H. R. Salvi, Prof. M. L. Naik and Prof. P. P. Thakur.

12. The department of Mechanical Engineering conducted Course Enrichment Program (CEP) for
the subject Heat Transfer on “Fin Optimization” on 13th October, 2017 for third year Mechanical
Engineering students. It was delivered by Prof. V S Bagade and attended by 30 students of TE
Mechanical. The objective of this program was to enrich the students with the contents beyond
syllabus which are not only important for the subjects in upcoming semesters but for competitive
examinations. Optimization with fin constant cross section and with fin thickness method was
discussed.

13. In view to bridge the gap between the curriculum and current industry practices in the field of
HVAC (Heating, ventilating and Air conditioning) under the subject of Refrigeration and Air
Conditioning, an industrial visit was organized by the department of Mechanical Engineering in
association with ISHRAE Thane Chapter to Emerson Climate Technologies, Chakan ,Pune for third
year Mechanical Engineering students on 16th December 2017. Total 19 students from T. E ISHRAE
students members participated.
The visit was organized under the guidance of Principal Dr. Kaushal Prasad, Head of
Mechanical Engineering Department Dr. M. S. Kirkire, ISHRAE Thane Chapter Student Chair Mr.
Sandeep Shinde, Ms. Nivedita Jadhav and the office bearers. The visit was successfully conducted by
FAMT ISHRAE Student Chapter Faculty Advisor Prof. Hemant V. Chavan.
Students of TE Mechanical visited Emerson Climate Technologies, Chakan Pune
14. In view to bridge the gap between theory and practice in the field of Automobile Engineering,
an industrial visit was organized by the department of Mechanical Engineering for third year
Mechanical Engineering students on 17th December 2017. Total 19 students from T.E. participated.
The visit was based on the study of Automobile Engineering including demonstration of all engine
models, chassis, fuel injection system; different types of wheel and tyres; types of energy conversion
model and various power plant working model.

Engineering department under the guidance of Principal Dr. Kaushal Prasad, Head of Mechanical

15. In view to bridge the gap between the curriculum and current industry practices in the field of
HVAC (Heating, ventilating and Air conditioning) under the subject of Refrigeration and Air
Conditioning, an industrial visit was organized by the department of Mechanical Engineering in
association with ISHRAE Thane Chapter to Kirloskar Chillers Private Limited, Saswad ,Pune for T.E.
Mechanical Engineering Students on 18th December 2017.Total 19 students from T.E. ISHRAE
students members participated. The visit was organized under the guidance of Principal Dr. Kaushal
Prasad, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department Dr. M. S. Kirkire and ISHRAE Thane Chapter
Student Chair Mr. Sandeep Shinde, Ms. Nivedita Jadhav and the office bearers. The visit was
successfully organized by FAMT ISHRAE Student Chapter Faculty Advisor Prof. Hemant Vasant
Chavan.

Students of TE Mechanical visited Kirloskar Chillers Private Limited, Saswad Pune
16. ISHRAE Thane Chapter organised a session on Interview Techniques for ISHRAE Student
members pursuing B. E. Mechanical Engineering on 26th October 2017 at Koparkhairane, Navi
Mumbai. The session emphasised on personality development and interview skills for the
freshers. Mr. Rajan Gaonkar, ISHRAE Chapter Working Committee member, conducted the
session. It was organised by ISHRAE Thane Chapter President - Mr. Bharat Jare, Student Chair
Mr. Sandeep Shinde, Women in ISHRAE National Chair Mrs. Nivedita Jadhav and Mr. Parag
Momaya. FAMT ISHRAE Student Chapter Faculty Advisor, Prof. Hemant V Chavan coordinated

17. The students of FAMT attended ISHRAE Job Junction 2017 at LTCOE, Koparkhairane, Navi
Mumbai on 26th, 27th and 28th October 2017. It was an initiative to link industry with the students
who are interested to work in the HVAC and R and allied industries.
In order to qualify for the ISHRAE Job Junction, total 3850 students had registered for online test
from all over India and 1050 students cleared it. 32 students of Mechanical Engineering from
FAMT among 258 students (west zone) cleared the online test and 13 students were selected in
various Refrigeration and HVAC companies like Volats Limited, Fablab Engineering, Airvison
Pvt. Limited etc.
It was organised by Shri. Sanjay Verma, National Chair; Mr. R. N. Joshi, Mumbai; Mr. Mihir
Sanghavi, IJJ Chairperson (ISHRAE Mumbai Chapter) and coordinated by Mrs. Nivedita Jadhav,
Mr. Sandeep Shinde, Mr. Bharat Jare and Mr. Parag Momaya (Thane Chapter) successfully

18. Dr. Neeraj Agrawal (M.Tech- IIT Madras, Ph.D-IIT Kharagpur); Associate Professor in
Mechanical Engineering Department at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University
(DBATU), Lonere, Raigad; was invited to deliver a session on Writing and Publishing Quality
Research Paper by the department of Mechanical Engineering on 25th November, 2017 for the
faculty members of all departments of FAMT. Prof A. M. Date welcomed and introduced him.
Dr. N. Agrawal initially briefed about Ph.D., discussed points to be considered while writing
quality research paper and also shared ideas on prerequisites of writing and submitting research
papers. Prof A. M. Date proposed a vote of thanks. The event was coordinated by Prof A. M. Date
under the guidance of Dr. M. S. Kirkire, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department.

19. The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Finolex Academy of Management and
Technology, Ratnagiri conducted a Four-days workshop on “Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning
Systems” on 23rd Sept, 07th Oct, 08th Oct & 15th Nov 2017 for the students of Final Year
Mechanical Engineering. It was conducted by Prof. Sachin S Gurav, Famt, Ratnagiri. Workshop
began on 23rd September 2017 at 10 a.m. Dr. M. S. Kirkire, HoD Mechanical, Prof. A. M. Date
highlighted the importance of Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning in current competitive
engineering field during inaugural function. Prof. Sachin S Gurav were felicitated by Dr. Milind
Kirkire. Workshop was conducted in four days comprising of theory & hands on practice.
Students were certified by Finolex Academy of Management & Technology Prof. Milind Yadav
and Prof. Sachin Mestry were present for certificate distribution ceremony. Prof. H. V. Chavan,

Social Events
1. Students from department of mechanical engineering participated in “Swaccha Bharat
Abhiyan organised by Finolex Academy of Management & Technology (FAMT).The
department is committed to sensitize students towards social problems and needs along with
providing fine technical knowledge. In line with this and according to the government
guidelines for “Swachata Abhiyan” we at FAMT conducted 3 major events in 15 days
i.e. from 16th September 2017 to 30th September 2017.

2. FAMT ISHRAE Student Chapter held K-12 STEM (Science Technology Engineering
Mathematics) through Drawing Competitions for the students of 1st to 5th standards
and Science based Project Exhibition for the students of 6th to 7th standard at different schools
in association with ISHRAE Thane Chapter. Drawing competitions were held at Zilla
Parishad Aadarsh Primary School No.01, Pawas on November 24 and Zilla Parishad Primary
School No. 01, Mirjole on 25th November 2017. 85 and 51 students from of these schools
respectively participated in the competitions. The winners of drawing competition from each
class were felicitated during the prize distribution ceremony which was followed by
distribution of gift and sweets to all the students. FAMT ISHRAE Student Chapter also
organised Science based Project Exhibition for 6th to 7th standard students at Zilla Parishad
Primary School No. 01, Mirjole on 25th November 2017. 38 students had great fun and
involvement while doing the projects.

Student’s Achievements
1. Vehicle competition at National Level
Electric National Kart Racing Championship 2017 powered by Virtualis Motorsports was
held from 29th September to 3rd October, 2017 at Radharaman Institute of Technology &
Science and RPM International Track, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The journey began with the
virtual round where the teams must submit their design report which includes analysis,
simulation, cad models and calculations of the proposed vehicle. After submissions, scores
were declared wherein the team Matadors successfully cleared the round and advanced to the
finals. It was followed by submission of College Level Technical Inspection Sheet and Teaser
Video which secured grade ‘A’. The team was hence set for the event in Bhopal.
The whole work was carried out in FAMT Workshop with the support, encouragement,
guidance and advice from Dr. Kaushal Prasad (Hon. Principal), Dr. Milind S. Kirkire (Head
of Mechanical Engg. Department), Prof. Vallurupalli Murali Mohan (Faculty
Advisor), and Mr. G. D. Targaokar (Registrar). All the faculty members of Mechanical
Engineering Department including workshop faculty members: Prof. A S Yekane (Workshop
In-charge), Mr. Bhosale, Mr. Utekar, Mr. Lingayat and Mr. Mestri guided the team as and
when needed.

2. Indian society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air conditioning Engineers
(ISHRAE) conducted “aQuest 2018”- a quiz competition sponsored by Hitachi India on 15th
November, 2017 at Don Bosco Institute of Technology, Mumbai. Total six teams from three
institutes viz. Finolex Academy of Management and Technology, Ratnagiri, Don Bosco
Institute of Technology, Mumbai, and Pillai College of Engineering, New Panvel participated
in the same.
Team of Aquib Kazi and Keyur Patil (B.E Mehcnaical Engineering, FAMT, Ratnagiri) won
the quiz and Pushkar Chitale and Hrushikesh Dale from FAMT got the runners up position.
The winning team of FAMT will be participating in zonal round and results of subsequent
round will give them an opportunity to face national level quiz at ACREX 2018 at Bangalore.

3. Mr. Rushikesh Govind Dale of T. E. Mechanical secured 3rd rank in Senior College Interstate
Elocution Competition 2017 organized by Gogate Jogalekar College, Ratnagiri
4. Mr. Anay Ghate, Mr Abhishek Vardam of B.E. Mechanical, Mr. Rushikesh Dale, Mr.
Chinmay Mulye of T. E. Mechanical won Inter Collegiate Chess (Men) Tournament

1) Dr. Kaushal Prasad won “Best Teacher Award” from Higher Education Forum, Pune
2) Dr. Milind Kirkire chaired a technical session on Product and Process Innovations in
International conference on Industrial Engineering (ICIE 2017) organised by NIT, Surat on
21st to 23rd December 2017.
3) Dr. Milind Kirkire delivered an expert session on Medical Product Development and Risks
in AICTE- FDP on Emerging trends and Approaches in Product Design and
Development organised by PVPIT, Budhgaon on 28th Nov. 2017
4) Dr. Milind Kirkire delivered an expert session on Corrugated Wire Mesh Laminated
Composite Material in AICTE- FDP on Recent Trends and Challenges in Materials and
Manufacturing Processes at RIT, Islampur, on 15th Nov, 2017
