EN50131 & PD6662:2010 - The Facts

EN50131 is the European standard that covers ‘intrusion systems’ and PD6662:2010 is the enabling document to allow the adoption of EN50131 in the UK which has been mandatory for all intruder alarm systems installed from 1st October 2005. One of the key features has been the introduction of four security product system grades along with environmental classes.

GradesThe four security grades are as follows:

These units may be used for intruder systems where compliance with EN50131-6 is not required.

Power Supplies 12V ACCESS Control Series

Overview

The new access control range of switch mode power supplies has been specifically designed to house common access control door controllers such as Mercury Security and Lenel.

The MULTI-ACCESS PSU range is offered with a unique hinged panel system offering up to 6 controllers to be housed in a single enclosure.

All models offer fault signalling and can charge a 12V standby battery to provide backup power on a mains failure.Multi-fused outputs are provided to allow the installer to protect individual circuits as required.

All models possess a front & rear tamper and also a mains fail relay output while the ACCESS-PSU models also offer additional Battery Monitoring and Deep Discharge Protection. The MULTI-ACCESS models can provide either 12V or 24V and also offer an independent ancillary relay that can beused for applications such as a ‘Fire’ door release relay.

Power Supplies 12-24 Switchable Range

Description

Overview

The 12-24 G-Range Series of switch mode power supplies have a regulated highly stable output supplying full rated current to load and accepts a universal mains voltage input range (90 to 264V ac).

All models possess a mains fail relay output and an independent ancillary relay that can be used for applications such as a ‘Fire’ door release relay.

On installation the units can be setup to provide either 13.8V or 27.6V dc by a simple PCB selection switch.

They are available in three power variants with multi-fused output models if required:

PoE Power Saver ModuleOverviewElmdene’s new PoE Power Saving Module (POE-PSM-4) is a unique device that allows non-critical channels to be automatically disconnected from a PoE switch, when being backed up by an online 240V ac UPS, under a mains fail condition. This provides either longer backup times for the critical channels or allows the installer to specify smaller batteries for the UPS system.

Selecting the non-critical channels is conducted using simple DIL switches on the front panel, whilst triggering of the device to indicate a mains fail conditionis conducted either by a Volt-free contact or by removal of a 12V dc signal.

Devices can be simply linked together to increase channel availability if required.

Overview

These Power over Ethernet (PoE) standby devices are capable of providing back-up power that can be used in security, access control and information technology applications.

The products fall into two categories:

1) Mains powered units producing 48V dc for powering PoE Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) devices such as dc powered PoE injectors or switches. These use industry standard 12V batteries to provide battery backed power.

The second group of PoE devices (PoE and PoE+) receive their power remotely from PoE. Due to power being provided from a PoE injector or switch, a mains connection is not required at the installation point. With local battery backup, they are ideal for critical systems that would otherwise be compromised on loss of power.

The PoE MiniPod & PowerPod devices are unique devices that can provide approximately 4hrs backup to a complete PoE system. This is accomlished by distributing local battery backup at each critical device (MiniPod) whilst backing up dataflow and recording devices at the head end (PowerPod).

Overview

Elmdene’s Fire Alarm Beacon is an EN54-23 compliant product that is capable of C-3-15 performance (ceiling mounted VAD).

With its universal mounting plate it can accommodate any detector base, providing a coverage area of 3m height and 15m diameter. This coverage matches the typical coverage of smoke detectors enabling customers a simple method of specifying and installing the devices.

Detector bases are fixed to a mounting plate that is designed to take any generic detector base.

Should the device be used as a stand-alone fire alarm beacon then a supplied flush white blanking plate can be fitted for aesthetic purposes.
