About Kirby Building Systems

For over fifty years, Kirby Building Systems has been a leading manufacturer of custom-engineered, high-quality, metal building systems for agricultural, aviation, commercial, industrial, institutional, recreational and most other specialty metal build-ing applications. Not only can Kirby design simple buildings, but our niche in the market place is to provide customized solutions for complex projects that may not appear to

be “pre-engineered” at first glance. The Kirby focus on quality and service results in building systems with solid advantages, including fast-response design, web-based estimating software, more detailed drawings, fewer pieces to erect, and complete buildings delivered on time resulting in faster completion schedules.

Kirby specializes in custom-engineered construction solutions, encompassing multiple building components, framing options, extended bay options, special exteriors, four standing seam roof systems, Kirby-Cool (Kynar and Siliconized Polyester) paint finishes and industry-leading warranty protection programs. With a wide variety of product offerings that are ideal for the unique requirements of many churches, schools and fire stations, Kirby’s Builder network throughout the eastern United States has the expertise to deliver top quality metal building systems.

Girt Conditions Girt conditions refer to the method which horizontal girts are attached to the exterior columns in a building. Kirby offers two basic types of girt conditions–Flush and Bypass. Flush girts provide no air space between the columns and exterior panels yet offer the maximum amount of floor space. The Bypass girt makes a continuous run around the outside of a building’s columns, providing an air space the width of the girt between the column and exterior panels. An Inset girt minimizes the air space between the columns and exterior panels.

Insulated Wall Panels

Add aesthetic value and improve energy efficiency with attractive, affordable and easy-to-install insulated panels. When it comes to building, quality, affordability and ease are essential. But so is attractiveness. And now, with handsome, lightweight and energy efficient insulated wall panels, you can easily meet your clients’ needs for durable, easy-to-build, efficient and attractive structures.

One of the most sophisticated building products on the market today, insulated wall panels offer a clean, consistent and high-quality appearance that will immediately add perceived value to any build-ing. Hidden fasteners give the panel a clean, aesthetically appealing appearance. In addition to enhancing the visual appearance of your buildings, the remarkable light weight of insulated panels also reduces structural requirements and installation costs.

The panels incorporate a finished interior liner, factory applied air and vapor shield, insulated foam core and finished exterior weathering surface into a single building unit. This composite action, resulting from a chemi-cal bond between the poured-in-place foam core and steel skins, creates a lightweight, rigid unit with excep-tional spanning capacity.

Light weight and simplified fastening systems deliver quick installation and reduce labor costs. The panels themselves are very affordable, and shipping and handling costs are reduced thanks to the product’s light weight. Panels can even be installed in adverse weather conditions. Removable film prevents damage to the exterior during shipping and installation.

You get 100% reliable thermal performance and insulation continuity; no cavities, no gaps, no crushed insulation and no cold bridges. No changes of R-value occur when purlin and girt center dimensions are varied. The insulated core is one of the most thermally effective insulants commonly available today. Insulation values can be easily increased by simply increasing thickness of the panels. Significant improvements are achieved in air tightness over many other types of construction.

100% recyclable• Maintains gloss and color • Exceptional colors stay true for years to come• Increased fire resistance•

Solar Reflectance To be considered “cool”, products must have a solar reflectance of at least 25%. Solar reflectance is the fraction of the total solar energy that is reflected away from a surface.

Thermal Emittance The measure of a panel’s ability to release heat that it has absorbed.

Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) Put solar reflectance and thermal emittance together and you get the Solar Reflective Index (SRI). SRI is calculated by using the values of solar reflectance, thermal emittance and a medium wind coefficient. The higher the SRI value, the lower its surface temperature and consequently, the heat gain into the building.

Conventional roof surfaces have low reflectance (0.05 to 0.25) and high thermal emittance (typically over 85%). Roof panels with both high reflectance and high emittance can reduce surface temperature by as much as 30%-50% based on color and geographic location, which will result in a reduced heat gain to the building, therefore reducing energy demand.

How is it Cool?
