I sincerely hope you all had a very happy and safe New Year with your family and friends. Already PAWA Committee are making plans for the 2016-2017 Calendar Year which I know will be exciting and rewarding for all clubs and their members. So wherever appropriate please at- tend these events as much time is put into planning them to ensure all who are present get new information, and are able to net-work with other clubs present. To me personally the net- working amongst clubs is very important. In December I was a guest at the inaugural meeting of the Probus Club of Dawesville. Whilst they are a Combined Club I feel sure that any person regardless of gender will be welcomed as a member. All present were very eager and willing to assist the new Committee in any venture they wished to undertake. So I personally wish them all the success in the coming years. This month I will be visiting Attadale Combined Probus Club. This will be a first for me and I am really looking forward to meeting the club members. Also, I have been invited to the Applecross- Attadale Ladies’ Probus Club “Meet & Greet” Luncheon which is their special way of celebrating Australia Day. My calendar looks empty for January, so I will enjoy the quiet time to catch up with my friends, going to lunch and playing bridge! In closing please consider becoming a committee member of PAWA, it is not daunting but very enjoyable and rewarding! Also your own clubs will be asking for persons to stand on their re- spective committees and no club can survive without the active participation of all members. PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Dear Fellow Probians

By the time you all get to read this report a New Year has begun! I sincerely hope you all had a

very happy and safe New Year with your family and friends.

Already PAWA Committee are making plans for the 2016-2017 Calendar Year which I know will

be exciting and rewarding for all clubs and their members. So wherever appropriate please at-

tend these events as much time is put into planning them to ensure all who are present get new

information, and are able to net-work with other clubs present. To me personally the net-

working amongst clubs is very important.

In December I was a guest at the inaugural meeting of the Probus Club of Dawesville. Whilst

they are a Combined Club I feel sure that any person regardless of gender will be welcomed as a

member. All present were very eager and willing to assist the new Committee in any venture

they wished to undertake. So I personally wish them all the success in the coming years.

This month I will be visiting Attadale Combined Probus Club. This will be a first for me and I am

really looking forward to meeting the club members. Also, I have been invited to the Applecross-

Attadale Ladies’ Probus Club “Meet & Greet” Luncheon which is their special way of celebrating

Australia Day. My calendar looks empty for January, so I will enjoy the quiet time to catch up

with my friends, going to lunch and playing bridge!

In closing please consider becoming a committee member of PAWA, it is not daunting but very

enjoyable and rewarding! Also your own clubs will be asking for persons to stand on their re-

spective committees and no club can survive without the active participation of all members.

Cheers and a safe January

AGM 2016 The AGM will be held on 23 March 2016 at the South of Perth Yacht Club, Applecross. Usu-ally when we mention this subject a fair percentage of people duck for cover behind the nearest bush. Please don’t do that. This is a request to Presidents and Secretaries to bring this to the attention of their members, and to urge them to attend. There are 3 attachments to this newsletter relating to the AGM. Firstly a notice of the meeting, requesting members to advise if they will be attending. Then a request for notice of motions. Finally, and importantly, a nomination form for positions on the PAWA com-mittee. Being on the committee gives you an good insight into the Probus movement in WA. By and large the movement is in good health, but it does rely on the involvement of its mem-bers to remain so. Committee work is often interesting and sometimes fun. It is always worthwhile. And it doesn’t take up a lot of your time. So please give consideration to nomi-nating. Come on down.

INFORMATION DAYS

There are 4 information days shown on the list of major events for 2016. Any member may attend, but they are particularly useful to members who will be on their club’s committee for the first time. There are a number of components required to ensure the well being of a club, but perhaps none more so than a an enthusiastic and effective committee. So if your club, like mine, expects to have a new look committee next year then come along to your nearest Information Day. There are 2 gorgeous venues in the metro area and an equally gorgeous one in Bunbury for you to enjoy. Arrangements for Great Southern members are being worked on right this moment-watch this space.

As he was doing his beat this policeman noticed two old ladies sitting in a car in a used car saleyard. He went over and said “ I hope you are not thinking of stealing this car”. “Oh no” said the first lady– “we have just bought it”. “Well why don’t you drive it away” said the cop. “We can’t drive” said the second lady. “Why did you buy it then” said the cop. The first lady said “We were told that if we bought a car at this caryard we would probably end up being screwed, so we are waiting to see what will happen”.

From the South West

This note is to advise you that Joyce Taylor died recently.

Joyce was a long term, valued member of Bunbury Ladies Probus Club. I know most clubs have lost members in recent times, but Joyce was special because of her involvement with the South West Region and PAWA.

In November 2003 ten South West Clubs assembled to discuss setting up a South West Re-gional Group. The ten clubs were Bunbury Men’s, Collie, Bunbury Ladies, Busselton Men’s, Eaton, South Bunbury Men’s, South Bunbury Ladies, Vasse, Margaret River, and Murray District.

Joyce Taylor was elected as South West Representative and it was decided to have two Get Togethers a year on a rotation set up at that meeting. It was Joyce’s job to co-ordinate these events. At that stage there were about 500 members in the South West Region with up to 200 attending the days. Within 18 months it was decided that one event a year was sufficient.

Prior to 2007 all Information Days were held in Perth. Joyce was asked to investigate the possibility of having a Regional Information Day in Bunbury. With help from Winston Marsh, on April 27th 2007 the first Information Day was held in St Augustine’s Community Hall in Bunbury. 54 attended from 10 clubs out of 11.

Organizing and coordinating these two events annually has been a very important part of the South West Representatives duties since.

Joyce held that job for 9 years during which the three established Mandurah clubs joined in the South West and two more developed and started, South Bunbury Clubs combined and Dunsborough, Manjimup and Harvey clubs were formed.

Joyce resigned in 2012 after a job very well done. Thanks Joyce.

I would like to extend the condolences of all members and PAWA to Joyce’s family and to her friends in Bunbury Ladies Probus Club.

Yours in Probus,

Don Faulks,PAWA South West Representative 2012-2016

Odd thoughts A recent study found that women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it. Old age is no place for sissies—Bette Davies Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Snore , and you sleep alone You are never too old to learn to do something stupid
