Welcome Letter

May 11, 2002

Dear India Business Conference Patron:

Welcome to the 2002 India Business Conference, hosted jointly by Kellogg School ofManagement and India Business Club (IBC). Six months ago, when we started research-ing about the topic for this year’s conference, the Executive Committee unanimouslyagreed with the theme, "The Changing Face of India". It seemed to be the most appropri-ate title. With increased infrastructure investment from the private sector, greater focus ondrug discovery and biotechnology services, passing of the Insurance and RegulatoryDevelopment Act (IRDA) in year 2000, and increased technical savvy of Indian profes-sionals, India does present a hotbed of opportunities.

The purpose of the conference is threefold: raise awareness about India leading to anincrease in investments in India; present a networking opportunity; and serve as an aspi-rational experience for professionals and entrepreneurs. The conference will focus on theways in which India and the Indian diaspora have adapted to the changing global eco-nomic environment, as well as the continuing process of privatization and deregulation inIndia. We believe that the conference’s speakers will highlight the potential offered byIndian businesses and the achievements of Indians in business.

We would like to sincerely thank the support of our sponsors and the studentExecutive Committee for their tireless efforts, which were instrumental in making thisconference possible. We hope you will find the experience today enjoyable, motivatingand enriching.

Thanks and once again welcome to the 2002 India Business Conference.
