Stunning show performed by brilliant cast! The picture opposite shows The Priory School students performing their
highly successful version of Sondheim and Bernstein’s classic musical,
West Side Story. Evening performances took place on Tuesday 10th
through to Thursday 12th March and the students performed to parents
and family as well as over 150 students from local primary schools.
The musical, which includes many hit songs, was performed by an
excep onally skilled cast and was staged by the school’s Music and
Drama departments. The challenging musical was cri cally acclaimed by
all who a ended and it marks the fi h musical that The Priory has
staged in recent mes. The cast of 60 students worked relessly to
perfect their roles and everyone at the school is very proud of their
achievements. Well done!

PHASE As you are aware, in November 2014 we launched our first charity week to raise money for PHASE, a local charity that works with many schools in North Her ordshire, including The Priory School. Sohail Mirza, one of our 6th form charity prefects, is seen here handing Kieran Murphy, the Director of PHASE, a cheque for £2000 which will be used to put new programmes in place and go towards suppor ng more young people in Hitchin. Kieran will be coming back into school soon to meet with our charity and community ambassadors to update them on all the work that they are now able to do, as a result of our fundraising. Charity Week On 9th March, we started our second charity week to raise money for Comic Relief. Throughout the week, we had many fun things going on such as cake sales, sumo suit wrestling, balloon twis ng, face pain ng, stand‐up comedy, fancy dress and red noses galore! We even had a few members of staff in fancy dress on
Friday too. Well done for ge ng involved! On Monday 9th March, we were very lucky to be able to work with the local comedian, Paul B. Edwards, in suppor ng our students prepare their own stand‐up rou ne, which they performed on Tuesday. The students were highly entertaining and
had the audience in fits of laughter with their jokes. Some students also organised their own charity events such as sweet sales, sponsored silences, a penalty shoot‐out and we even had caricature drawing. We are s ll adding up all of the money raised throughout the week, so we will update you soon: For more updates from charity week, follow me on twi er @SouthallMrs

Biology In Ac on Conference – 12th March 2015
On Thursday 12th March, 22 AS and A2 Biology students a ended a ‘Biology In Ac on’ day Conference
at the Ins tute of Educa on at UCL in London. It was an excellent day and we all learnt a lot about
Gene cs, Evolu on and Inheritance and future research in Biology.
‘The trip to UCL was very inspiring in learning about different routes which one can follow in studying
Biology, and how specialised it can
truly be. But most importantly it
was very relevant to current studies
in AS and A2. It was very interes ng
to see how advances in biological
sciences are being made and all the
exci ng prospects for study in
coming years.’ Jack Thompse yr

Cru s Success
Lexi Birks, a Year 12 student from
The Priory School, was hugely
successful when she took her two
dogs Kii aa and Dotsie to show at
Cru s this year.
Lexi first started showing dogs in
2012 when the breeder of Kii aa asked her to go to a championship
show to see the other dogs in her li er. Kii aa competed at that show and came third out of eight which
meant she qualified for Cru s in 2013. Kii a came first in her puppy class.
This year Lexi showed both her dogs and Kii aa was placed
third in her Post Graduate class: Dotsie was placed first in
her Limit class. Kii aa also came first in Post Graduate in
2014. A er Cru s Lexi was approached by the Head of the
Finnish Lapphund club and asked to show Kii aa at a further
compe on. Kii aa
was placed 3rd out of
64 so Lexi is now the
proud owner of the
third place Finnish
Lapphund in the country! Both dogs have qualified for Cru s next
year and we hope for further success for Lexi and both her beau ful
dogs!

Welcome to Raising Aspira ons – CEIAG
Just a reminder that the Careers Department is now called Raising Aspira ons – CEIAG (which stands for Careers Educa on Informa on Advice and Guidance). Under one umbrella, we deliver careers lessons; enterprise and work related workshops; trips to companies and universi es; careers advice; help with applying to Sixth Form, college and appren ceships; help with applying to university. We also organise work experience placements for students in Year 10 and 12.
Year 10 Parents’ Evening – Thursday 26th March
If you would like to meet with one of our team on Parents’ Evening, please use the online system to book a slot.
Work Experience Week – 13th to 17th July 2015
Please con nue to discuss this important week in the calendar with your child if they are in Year 10 or 12. The key point for parents at the moment is to look into the possibility of finding a private placement so that students spend their week working in an area of their own choice. The school can help with this process, but students need to come and talk to us before the end of term. The deadline for private placement forms is the end of April and this cannot be extended. Please contact [email protected] for further help and informa on.
