Fully aware of the growingneed for a place for theyoungsters of the village tohave their own meetingplace, the Parish PlanWorking Group (youth andsport) is actively seeking asite or building where a startcan be made to either buildfrom new or convert for useas a youth club. The Group, which is working
independently from the ParishCouncil, is looking toestablish itself as a charity toachieve the first aim offinding a short term home fora youth club for perhaps some18 months.During that time the Groupwill be working at the longerterm goal of developing afacility both for youth andsport which will meet the
village needs as highlighted inthe Parish Plan which isavailable on the informativeParish Council website(www.duffieldpc.org.uk) andat the library. The Group hopes to bid forinitial funds from the Councilbut the long term project willrequire significant furtherfunding hopefully via grantsand sponsorship. As well as working closelywith the Council, the Grouphas support from outsideagencies, connections, thepolice, local sports and healthclubs, Borough and County
councillors. The aim of the youth centre isto give youngsters a place oftheir own that they candecorate and look after. It does not have to be luxury, just safe structurally and havetoilet and washing facilities asa start up place with, hopefully, a tailor-madeclubhouse to follow in the nottoo distant future.

Despite the weather doingits worst the William GilbertMay Fayre was a hugesuccess. The Fayre was opened byMillie Tomlinson (ex-pupiland now under 13 BritishNational Squash Champion). Simon Hare (lent to us by kindpermission of the BBC) was afantastic MC and kepteveryone’s spirits lifted byannouncing the variety ofevents and the numerous prizewinners throughout the day!! The maypole had to behurriedly reassembled in theschool hall and we all watchedin amazement at our childrenwho, after only two practicesessions, danced more thannine different dances!! One of our dads took on acircuit training session for thechildren, closely followed bya cheerleading session – allthoroughly enjoyed by all whoparticipated and spectated!!
Our “sealed bid” and “raffle”stalls were incredibly busywith lots of amazing items tobe won or bid for. When all the pennies andpounds were counted by aweary treasurer at the end ofthe day our grand total of£3,058 was announced!! A refurbishment of thejunior classrooms is a high
priority for this term’sexpenditure and the PTA arekeen to spend spend, spendand pass any financial gainonto the children as quicklyas possible. We have recently upgradedthe junior playground withball walls, play tables andshaded areas in readiness forthe sunny days ahead.
All this could not be achievedwithout the hard work of ourPTA, the generosity of parentsand local businesses and manyDuffield residents who turnedup to support us on the day. THANK YOU ALL.

Other ways that you could beat risk from identity fraudinclude dishonest salesassistants in shops and binraiding.Bin raiding is when details arestolen from the rubbish thatwe throw away. A recent survey by theFinancial Services Authority(FSA) found that almostthree-quarters of binscontained the full name andaddress of at least onehouseholder. One in five contained a wholecredit or debit card number, one in five a whole bankaccount and sort code and onein six a whole utility bill. Any of these could be enoughto steal your identity. How do you know you havebeen affected? You may not realise straightaway that you have been avictim of this sort of crime,
but there are things that youcan look out for. Theseinclude unfamiliar transactionson your bank statement orcredit card, receivingstatements for accounts thatyou have never opened orunexpected refusal for creditor loans. What to do?If you think you have beenaffected:Contact the local police andkeep a note of the crime andreference number that theygive youContact every company
