The full spectrum of colors.  Heidelberg color measurement systems.

Exact color reproduction plays an important role in the modern brand environment. With packagings, labels, and commercial print jobs, it all comes down to fast recognition and unique identification of the brand and product. Colors are a crucial part of this. Commercial and printing packaging therefore requires abso-lute repeat precision, even for the shortest of production runs. The colors need to look exactly the same in different media. This calls for a color measuring technology that goes far beyond conventional density and camera-based evaluations. The spectral measuring technology developed by Heidelberg® meets this requirement with extremely high precision. The unique and patented ink control system reproducibly corrects even the smallest deviations. Our color measurement systems also offer the highest level of automation in conjunction with our high efficient presses. There are no long setup times involved, so you can get printing faster and save time for other jobs. Whether measuring the entire print image or permanently displaying the color deviation ΔE during the production run, the color measurement systems have a number of unique selling points that make them shine. And what is most import- ant: they will also help you to be successful with your customers.

Spectral measurement alone will not ensure optimum coloring during printing. What is crucial is the adjustment of the ink zones. Colorimetric control from Heidelberg is the only shortcut to the desired, standard-compliant result.

When density alone is not enough.  Hitting and holding colors.

Impressive color accuracy with Prinect color measurement systems• Spectral measurements and colorimetric control• Polarization filters for density and tonal value

measurement• Display of density, achievement of target color ΔE, dot

gain, slurring/doubling, best match• Visual control thanks to graphic display of the color

deviations in all color zones• Fully automatic readjustment and simultaneous adjust-

ment of all ink zone motors• Color archive with Pantone and HKS colors for faster

achievement of color• Archive for customer-specific colors• ISO standards stored• Reports via Prinect® Analyze Point: operating data,

color reports and certificates, quality management

Modern color measurement systems work on the basis of a spectralphotometer. These systems have the advantage of seeing more, and therefore also supply more information than traditional densitometers. In addition to the colori-metric values CIEL*a*b* and ΔE, they also supply the density as an important control variable for the printer and the dot gain derived from it.

This type of ink control is crucial in ensuring that our color measurement systems hit the colors more exactly. This is because unlike density control, where the adjustment of the ink zone motors is based exclusively on the measured difference in density, we are calculating the adjustment from the colorimetric, i.e. the visually visible, difference.

You can see this difference. Because the color can look dif-ferent even if the density is the same. Only colorimetric control enables you to stably control pastel tones or directly notice ink soiling right up to the accidental use of the wrong ink.

Another advantage is that colorimetric control enables you to measure a color sample once, and then immediately achieve the desired shade at the press. If the color sample or reference color cannot be produced with the ink in the ink fountain, this is indicated immediately – before the run is printed and can result in a complaint later from the cus-tomer. Three percent of all complaints are still down to the wrong inks being used!

The intelligent factory: Prinect – the integrated print and media workflow.

• Software modules for automated and transparent production control.

• Prinect Production integrates prepress, digital and offset printing as well as postpress.

• Prinect Portal opens digital doors, irrespective of working and production times.

• Prinect Business links administration with production.

• Prinect Media permits modern media communica-tion, both online and printed.

One copy just like the next.   Prinect Image Control 3.

When it comes down to absolutely uniform inking over the entire sheet, you are always on the safe side with Prinect Image Control® 3. No other unit in the world spec-trally scans the whole print sheet and balances out even the smallest deviations in the print image – automatically. It automatically detects not only all measuring elements but also solid areas using the prepress data and incorpo-rates them into the control process.

CMYK images and halftone areas can be perfectly corrected using print samples and proofs. Prinect Image Control 3 is the first measuring instrument to not only be able to measure opaque white, but also control it. This permits much more reliable control of the chromatic colors when printing on foils or metal surfaces.

Prinect Image Control 3:• Standalone color measurement system for connection to

up to four Speedmaster® printing presses• Autofocus to compensate for different printing substrate

thicknesses• Space-saving micro print control strips can be used with-

out restriction across all formats• Additional display of the color deviation on the

High-performance quality assurance.   Prinect Axis Control.

Prinect Axis Control® is the high-performance color mea-surement system for packaging and commercial printing. Setup consists exclusively of assigning the inks. And even this is only necessary if something changes. The print control strip is automatically located and recognized on the printed sheet, as is the paper white. This means that Prinect Axis Control measures every job around three minutes faster than comparable equipment.

The maintenance-free LED lighting dispenses with costly bulb changes. A strong vacuum and automatic tracking of the print control strip almost virtually eliminate measuring errors and therefore repeat measurements.

Prinect Axis Control:• Operation and display via the Prinect Press Center® XL 2

touchscreen• Additional color deviation display on the Wallscreen XL • Measuring head with powered horizontal and vertical

travel• Autofocus to compensate for different printing substrate

thicknesses• Space-saving micro print control strips can be used with-

out restriction across all formats • Netprofiler for colorimetric calibration

Highlights:• Fastest spectrophotometer in its class, with a measuring

speed of 200 mm/second (7.87 in/sec.)• Automatic print control strip tracking, including sheets

in an inclined position• Maintenance-free LED lighting for long service life and

cost savings

Setup without stopping.   Prinect Inpress Control 2.

The spectral measurement system Prinect Inpress Control 2, the only one of its kind in the world, finds the print control strips, the paper white, and the register marks fully auto-matically – and starts ink control without intervention by the printer. The color deviation ΔE, which is important in packaging printing in particular, is continuously displayed and adjusted on the fly, without pulling the sheets.

When exactly the required coloring is attained, the good-sheet counter starts automatically and the machine begins production. In addition, a tab can be inserted into the paper pile. Prinect Inpress Control 2 in combination with other automation components lays the foundation for Push to Stop, a feature for fully automated job changes without any interruption, from the last to the first good sheet and the start of production. In this way you shorten your setup times in the long term and achieve unbeatable production speeds.

Prinect Inpress Control 2:• Complete package for color and register control• Operation and display via the Prinect Press Center XL 2

touchscreen• Additional color deviation display on the Wallscreen XL• Space-saving micro print control strips can be used with-

out restriction across all formats• Netprofiler for colorimetric calibration

Highlights:• Fully automatic setup• Quality Assist: automatic run start on reaching the good

sheet• Register control as standard• Unique ΔE display during production without pulling

sheets, for maximum quality runs

Wallscreen XL of the Prinect Press Center XL 2• Netprofiler for colorimetric calibration

Highlights:• Extremely high resolution of 50 million pixels or

CIEL*a*b* values• Proof Match for faster alignment of the finished print

with proofs and print samples• Vacuum suction for optimum flatness• Automatic feedback of color data and tone values to the

Prinect prepress workflow with Color Interface

Integrated color management.   Color workflow with Prinect.

With Prinect, Heidelberg is the only manufacturer to offer a complete workflow to ensure constant print quality. What is special about Prinect is that the measured color values are reported back directly to prepress, evaluated there, and logged. They are also used to adapt the tone values during plate imaging and adaptation of ICC profiles. The result is optimal proofs and printing plates at all times – as well as the shortest setup times at the press.

Prinect Color ToolboxThe software package consists of three modules:• The Quality Monitor evaluates density, dot gain, CIEL*a*b*,

ΔE and checks the color standard against printing stan-dards such as ISO 12647-2 and G7.

• The Profile Tool provides ICC color profiles. It makes it easier to print heavy print forms e.g. using a unique achromatic function (GCR), especially on perfecting presses, and saves ink. The Multicolor option enables 85 percent of all Pantone colors to be replaced with a maximum of seven standard colors. This makes short runs in pack-aging printing economical again, since you are printing, rather than changing inks.

• The Calibration Tool ensures the correct dot size on the printing plate. Linearization of platesetter and plate and adaptation to the characteristic curve (process calibration) are performed separately here. If e.g. the plate material changes, only one parameter needs to be adjusted.

Prinect Dipco ElementsPrint control strips in each ink zone should, if possible, include all the colors in a print job in order for ink control to work reliably. Micro print control strips ensure this with a measurement patch size of just 3.25 × 4.00 mm (0.128 × 0.157 in). They save space on the printed sheet, but still conform to the ISO standards for reliable tone value measurement. The micro print control strips can be used without restriction across all formats.

Prinect Pressroom ManagerThe Prinect Pressroom Manager® provides CIP4-PPF data for the pressroom. This data is used to calculate where the ink zone motors need to be positioned for the respective print image, and these positions are then transferred to the press.

Prinect Image Control determines the position of the print control elements and the solid-tone areas from the CIP4-PPF data and automatically incorporates them into the ink con-trol process.

Prinect Press Center XL 2, Prinect Press Center 2Preinking and ink presetting parameters can be called up and saved on the machine control station. Together with the CIP4-PPF data, they ensure that the right amount of ink always reaches the paper.

Color Assistant ProColor Assistant Pro adapts the ink presetting for fast inking- up and monitors the ink fountain liner for constant ink flow and to avoid wear-through.

Color InterfaceWith Color Interface, Prinect Image Control 3 automati-cally detects all print control elements such as Mini Spots® on the printed sheet and supplies information about den-sity, dot gain, CIEL*a*b*, and ΔE to prepress, where it is used for ongoing process control and adaptation.

Print Color Management is a comprehensive service pack-age that will help you to achieve perfect color matching while at the same time shortening makeready times. It involves prepress and printing specialists optimizing your entire workflow so that you can ink-up quickly and produce the color proof reliably.

Print Color Management always starts with a comprehen-sive consultation. Then we look at the entire color work-flow from preinking at the press, through the correct dot size on the printing plate, to calibration of the proofer.

Rely on the experts from Heidelberg – no one knows your equipment better. We will also help you to standardize your print production to ISO 12647-2, and will confirm your successful standardization with an appropriate certificate. This will strengthen your position in the market, since printing to ISO is a frequent prerequisite these days for awarding print jobs.

The right system for every application.  How the measurement systems measure up.

Reliable, flawless printed sheets.  Prinect Inspection Control 2.

Particularly in packaging and label printing, guaranteeing the quality of a printed product is not just a matter of cor-rect inking. Printing errors need to be identified at an early stage in order to ensure there are no complaints.

Prinect Inspection Control 2 delivers top performance when it comes to sheet inspection. Two high-resolution color cameras in the coating unit of the press fully check each sheet for material defects, hickeys, ink splashes, scumming and so on to prevent follow-up costs. The blower air-assisted optimized sheet guidance permits a comprehensive inspec-tion right up to the trailing sheet edge.

The Prinect color measurement systems are ideally tailored to the different requirements in the pressroom. Newcomers will be pleasantly surprised with how quickly they learn to use Prinect Easy Control. Whereas manual measuring devices previously had to take measurements in individual zones, it now takes just a few seconds to measure the entire print control strip and set all ink zones simultaneously. This saves time during setup and results in greater print run uniformity.

The same applies to Prinect Axis Control. The high level of automation helps the printer to shorten setup times. Vacuum suction ensures optimum flatness, even with thin paper and thick cardboard.

Prinect Image Control 3 delivers uncompromisingly uni-form quality if you want to compare individual copies or print a job on several different presses. The possibility of dispensing with the print control strip by placing mea-suring elements between packaging flaps is another special feature that delivers invaluable benefits, especially in pack-aging printing.

Prinect Inpress Control 2 is the ideal solution for standard-ized processes and numerous job changes. The setup speed is the same as the production speed, and register and color control processes are completed automatically. The use of spectral measuring technology enables the press to be set up for new paper or spot inks without stopping it. Prinect Inpress Control 2 is also the best solution when long runs need to comply with very narrow tolerances. After all, every single print sheet is measured.

Prinect Inspection Control 2 spots everything from hickeys, smudging, and scumming to blanket defects, thereby ensuring that only error-free copies reach the customer. This level of quality is required for high-quality print products.

The Prinect color measurement systems offer the right solution for every application. The different systems have different strengths, depending on the task and level of automation.
