Principal’s DeskThis time the All Saints’ College Times, theCollege Newsletter focuses on a very specialaccomplishment in the field of education andemancipation. With hard work, dedication andthe blessings of the Almighty, All Saints’ Collegehas acquired an A Grade following theassessment of the NAAC Peer Team. I wishthe Management, Faculty, Non Teaching Staffand students all the very best for theirpainstaking efforts. The College has reachedout to young women from various sections insociety encouraging their intellectual skills,

helping in building their confidence and initiating general empowerment. By doing so, we havecreated young women who are intellectually gifted, socially steadfast, and spiritually motivated;in short we have chiselled out women whom society can always depend on in difficult times. Ourstudents have excelled in many ways and continue to do us proud. As always, the Newsletterrecords the various events and activities; academic and extra- curricular of the college from Juneto October 2016. The newsletter provides a fresh outlook, generates an interest in the myriadfacades of our college and helps in the assessment of the overall performance during the last fewmonths. I congratulate Ms. Joveeta Justin and Ms.Rajani V for their assiduous efforts which arereflected in the pages of the Newsletter.

In all these years,All Saints ‘College has bought forth numerous prodigies who have excelled in various walks oflife and done us proud. Young girls fresh from schools who first walk through the thresholdemerge as intelligent young women with well honed minds and eager hearts; all set to hold theworld captive. Indeed All Saints’ College has done much for the cause of women empowermentand emancipation. This year the college newsletter, the All Saints’ Times, focuses on the muchawaited NAAC Peer Team Assessment of the college, the acquiring ofthe A Grade and all the activities of the various departments, clubs,associations and organizations within the college. We have reached thesummit of success and it is heartening to note that the students havedone their share in bringing glory to their beloved College.

The College Council has as itsChairperson, the Principal Dr.Jessy Jose. The Board consistsof the Heads of the variousDepartments, electedrepresentatives from amongthe teaching staff, whichincludes the ManagementRepresentative - Sr. Dr.Pascoela Adelrich D’ Souza ,the Staff advisor - Mrs. MorrinC., the Staff secretary Dr.Parvathy Menon , PTAsecretary - Mrs. Morrin C. andthe Treasurer Mrs. LissyBennet. Important academicand administrative mattersconcerning the college arediscussed at the councilmeetings. Decisions are alsotaken and the Minutes book ismaintained by the staffsecretary.

IQAC

Maintaining a high level of education and assessment has alwaysbeen of paramount importance at All Saints’ so the IQAC has indeeda major task at hand. It plays an integral part in the smooth functioningof the College. The IQAC works relentlessly in pursuit of perfectionin both academics and evaluation. Quality management, improvinginfrastructure and assimilating innovations are tasks carried outeffortlessly by the members of the IQAC.

NAAC VISIT

This year All Saints’ College gearedup to face one of the toughestchallenges, the much awaitedNAAC visit. The peer teamcomprising Dr.Ratan Lal Godara,Dr.Gayathri and Dr.Dilip Dongevisited the College on 7th August2016. They reviewed, assessedand took stock of the variousDepartments, students, facilities,infrastructure and gardens. Thevisit lasted for three days and was

highly satisfactory as far as the PeerTeam was concerned. All theDepartments achieved their verybest and the anticipation regardingthe result was high. Ultimately itwas a moment of great triumph forthe entire college when the NAACTeam awarded an A Grade. All thehard work and diligence had paidoff and it was indeed a joyful dayfor everyone.

Under collaboration with the KeralaState Biodiversity Board, aBiodiversity Club is functioning inthe college, the main objective ofwhich is to carry out programmesfor conservation of local biodiversityin accordance with the SateBiodiversity Acts. Under thePatronage of the Principal, AllSaints’ College, the P GDepartment of EnvironmentalSciences is entrusted with theactivities of the Biodiversity Club.Dr. Smitha Asok V., AssistantProfessor of the Department ofEnvironmental Scieces is the Co-ordinator of the activities of theClub in the College. In addition, theBoard has also sanctioned theprestigious ‘Santhisthal’ project toAll Saints’ College in which initially,15 cents of land in the campus wasset aside for making a wood-lot withRare, Endangered and Threatened(RET) species. Later, an additional85 cents of land was allocated forthis purpose and thus a total of 1acre of land was brought under theproject, which in due course of timewas to be turned into a biodiversityrich thick forest area withouthuman hindrance.

All members of the Biodiversity Club including the studentsof College NSS unit is engaged in follow up activities ofthe plantation. A gardener is also engaged for the purposeand the planted trees are taken good care of, by way ofroutine watering, manuring and guarding, as required.

A team from the Meghalaya State Biodiversity Board visitedShanthisthal on 24.11.16, as part of the Peer Learning Process toobserve the successful implementation of Santhisthal project in thecampus.
