Principal’s Message
This month we will continue our Lenten Journey with the Triduum as well as Easter
Sunday. The Triduums recall the three days that Christ spent in the tomb, from Good
Friday until Easter Sunday. All families are invited to attend all of our Lenten Obser-
vations, especially our Holy Thursday Observation where we will participate in the
traditional Foot Washing and see our senior students enact the Passion of our Lord
Jesus Christ at 2:00 p.m. in the gymnasium. We will be hosting our Easter Liturgy at
Monday April 9th at 10:45 a.m. and all parents are welcome to attend. It is with a
heavy heart that the staff and students prepare to say goodbye to Father Wilburt Chin
Jon as the priest for Our Lady of the Rockies parish. We wish him all the best as he
transitions into his new role as the Moderator of the Curia for the Diocese of Calgary.
As well, we would like to welcome Father Nathan Siray as he transitions to Our Lady of
the Rockies Parish as the priest. Father Siray will be visiting Our Lady of the Snows
this month, to become acquainted with our students as he continues his transition.
After our break, we will enjoy the newness that Easter brings and the fresh start that
God provides. As well, we are very fortunate to have the NET Team (National Evan-
gelical Team) join our school for the last week of April. These young men and woman
will lead our students in a variety of music and drama retreats and be examples of the
love and joy, a deep faith life brings. Our School Council has once again sponsored
the Artist in Residence dance program this year and our students will be working on
choreographed routines from April 23rd-27th. Parents are welcome to come out and
watch the final performance on April 27th.
Mr. Phil Puurunen
FAITH
Adoration
Wednesday April 11th—cancelled until Father Nathan Siray settles into the Bow Valley
Two Wednesdays each month at Our Lady of the Snows, Father Siray and Deacon Brian West will be joining K-12
classrooms to introduce, explain, encourage and guide our students in prayer in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.
Providing time and a quiet place for our students to contemplate their relationship
with God is a deeply meaningful form of prayer.
Easter Celebration
Monday March 9th at 9:00 a.m.
Easter is the celebration of Christ's resurrection from the dead. It represents the fulfilment
of God's promises to mankind. Please celebrate it with us on this day in the gymnasium.
Net Ministries
Mondays April 16th to Friday April 20th
We are very fortunate to have the NET (National Evangelical Team) will visit our school again this year. These young
adults travel throughout schools and parishes throughout Canada for a period of one year dedicating themselves to
spreading the Gospel to youth. This years team consists of 3 males and 3 females. They will be conducting spiritual
retreats with our Grade 4 to 9 students over a period of 5 days.
Chapel Choir
Mondays 3:30 - 5:00p.m.
The third semester for the Choir will begin on Monday, April 9th. Students are welcome to join and should see Mrs.
Buchko if they are interested. This is a new start for those who haven’t been able to join earlier. The spring session will
end on Sunday, May 27th with Mass in the gym at 10:00 a.m. followed by a performance at Spring Creek ’s Origin at
11:30 a.m.
Did You Know That OLS Is The ‘New’ Catholic Church?
It is true! While the new Shrine of the Catholic Church is being built, regular services are being held here at our school.
All families are welcome to join us here at OLS, a familiar and comfortable place to feel part of something larger than
ourselves. The OLS community is a wondrous place to be, joined by other families who share the same worries,
struggles and successes. We hope that you will feel welcome to join us here at OLS.

LEARNING Artist in Residence
Tuesday April 24 to April 27th
From Monday, April 23rd to 27th, 2018, our students will participate in a hip hop dance program which will focus on exploration of movement, health and self-confidence through the art of hip-hop and safe break-dancing. This program tunes into the current youth culture to inspire students with moves they are exposed to in everyday life and have dreamed of actually doing. Through the art form of hip-hop and safe break dance, SoundKreations will lead your chil-dren on an exploratory adventure of movement, health and self-confidence! SoundKreations will be working with Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy Kindergarten through Grade 6 students for 5 dance-packed days, transforming our students into electric, creative, inspired dancers! We will traverse all the elements of hip-hop dance, emphasizing the uniqueness of the individual and the power of community. This voyage of kinesthetic expression is highly interac-tive, entirely approachable and FUN! Many thanks to our wonderful Parent Council (SAC) for making this program possible. We could not do this without you! Please come out and see all the wonderful work the students have done on Friday, April 27th, 2018 at 10:45 a.m. in the OLS Gymnasium. Hope to see you there! If you have any questions, please feel free to email Ms. Roantree at [email protected].
Kindergarten Screening
Monday April 30
New students to OLS are asked to attend our Kindergarten Screening on April 30th. Please call Mrs. Caissie at 403-609-3699 to schedule a time for you and your child to attend. The information received from the screening will be used to plan learning experiences for your child in order to make their school year successful. It will also assist in designing programs for children who require additional support. Parents will be notified if follow-up is required.
iGem
The OLS iGem team would like to formally welcome back Lisa Oberding and David Lloyd as mentors in our synthetic
biology and entrepreneurial ventures. We are privileged to have them as part of the OLS communi-
ty as GeekStarter and Alberta Innovates continues to guide us through our learning journey in
worldly science.
David Lloyd was instrumental in helping us create a synthetic biology team at OLS. Please join us
in celebrating their most recent of many accomplishments by visiting this LINK or their website
www.fredsense.com/ for more information.
The OLS team has been working hard to master the science with our aim to be competitive at the
Worldwide iGem Jamboree this coming October 2018 in Boston. Visit this LINK for more information. .
Students began their OLS training in September and kicked off their GeekStarter support at a workshop in December

Playground Project
On Saturday, March 3, 2018, the first joint fundraiser between OLS and NDM took place at Banff Mount Norquay. On all accounts, the event was a huge success. We sold 248 tickets and raised $4,348.78 for the new playground. This month the Project also confirmed a $10,000 donation from Crossway Community Thrift Store. Bit by bit we will reach our goal. In addition, Canmore Panago Pizza will be donating $1.00 from every medium and large pizza sold from April 6
th to 8
th, 2018. Last, on April 11,
2018, Banff Mount Norquay will be hosting their Toonie Ski Day. The NDM/OLS Play-ground Project will be the recipient of these funds. Please spread the word and attend a day of skiing and riding for only $2.00, while raising funds for our children.
Please note a few volunteers are needed that day for shifts between: 8:45 am and 11:00 am; and 10:45 am and 1:00 pm.
If you can spare some time on April 11, 2018, please email Lisa Grover at [email protected].
