Long time ago, in Lombok Island. There was a kingdom named Kuripan. Kuripan was very famous kingdom. The king of Kuripan was very wise. He had a daughter, named Mandalika. She was a princess in Kuripan. She was so beautiful, tall and clever. Many princes wanted to marry her. To choose one that would be Mandalika’s husband. The king made an arrow shooting competition.

After the announcement was knew by other kingdom. One day, the competition began. Many princes came to the competition. Those princes shot their arrows perfectly. King got difficult to choose. All prices could pass the test without any fault. Then all princes began to fight. They were killing other.

“Calm down people! I command you all to stop this fight, I do not want somebody die” King yell. Princes did not listen to what king’s talk. Nobody could stop it. Mandalika got sad. She did not want anyone killing other just for her self.

“They began to fight because of me and they will stop it because of me too” said Mandalika.

Then Mandalika went to sea. Mandalika would kill her self. She jumped into the sea. Mandalika sank and died there. Knowing that, the king was so sad. Princes regretted. They cried and promised that they will keep peace in Lombok Island.

Until now, Lombok people go to sea to find some worms in south sea of Lombok especially in February and March. People cook the worms for food. It calls nyale. People believe the worms are Mandalika’s hair.
