Vol 33 No 04
April 2016
There’s been a lot of great driving weather these last few
weeks and we hope the Club members are taking advantage of
it. On any given day you see plenty of tops down on more mod-
ern cars enjoying the opportunity to make a drive through the
prettiest area in the nation.
The 2016 British Car Day is shaping up, Diane is working really hard on making it another world-
class event. She’s a virtual font of great ideas and works harder than any 10 people we know. The
website is jamming, thanks to Dave Rosato’s hard work, and on the Windscreen. It’s really great
to have it up to date in informative. Don Kelly reports a number of new members; we’re not really
sure what he’s doing to attract them but we’re really glad to have new folks join us and be part of
a fun, dynamic club.
We had a nice conversation with Giulio and Doreen Sebastiano at the Mt. Pleasant Cars and Cof-
fee a few weeks ago. Giulio is a fan of our club and has put together the Italian Car Club of
Charleston. He is putting together a “Euro” show in June at the big MSC parking lot right off Wa-
termark Blvd in Mt. Pleasant and would like to bring a number of local clubs, British, Mercedes,
Porsche, BMW, Volkswagen, and Italian together for this. He’s looking at June 11th as a possible
date. It sounds like a lot of fun, kind of informal at this time but Giulio and Doreen are quite en-
thusiastic about it. We will be talking to them in the next few weeks about their plans.
Kiawah is right around the corner, Irene and Bruce are working in the event and a lot of effort is
being put into making this into a world class event. The Saturday show is not club-oriented, it is
more of an individual car entry type of event. Car will be parked on the field according when they
show up. The BCCC is planning to meet at Fresh fields, then drive in together to have the best
chance of being parked together. If you are bringing a car to that event, keep an eye out for
emails from Mert for the final plans.
Diane Lambert put together the Motor Car Morning at the Waterfront Park which was greatly
enjoyed by club members who wanted to get out for a drive on a nice Saturday morning. That ven-
ue is getting harder to access so she is considering moving it to the Mt. Pleasant Cars and Coffee
location at the Town Center. It will still be on the 3rd of every month so the next one will be
there. We’ll try to congregate at the parking lot near the bank and should start around 8:30 or so.
Come on over and show the rest of the motoring world how it’s done!
‘Til next month, Safety Fast

Hello Everyone,
Last month I introduced myself and gave a heads-up that I would be asking for
assistance with our BCD. I will continue to use this space to keep you updated on
how the BCD plans are coming along so that I don’t have to take time at our meet-
ings to talk about it throughout the year.
I’m so pleased that several of you have reached out and offered assistance and
want to thank you. Obviously, as the event gets closer, I will be doing more beg-
ging for help.
All of that being said, I am awaiting our permit confirming our October 29th show
date (which I’m hoping to receive no later than next week) and will share this an-
nouncement just as soon as I have it in my hands so we can all mark our calendars.
In the interim, I’ll be working behind the scenes to line up what I can.
I welcome everyone’s ideas on how to make our welcome reception and BCD event
more interesting and enjoyable. Since the new show season is in full swing, and
many of us will be attending a variety of shows/events, if you see something of
interest at another show, share it with me, and we’ll see if it can work for our
event.
Thank you all. I look forward to hearing from you!

Get To Know You!
By Diane Lambert
Last month I mentioned my idea of the “Get to Know You” segment as a light-hearted way
for members to get to know a little something about each other.
At our March meeting the lucky participant was one of our very reserved members, Don
Kelly. For those of you who know Don, you know that when I say reserved, it’s with much
humor as Don is definitely no Shrinking Violet.
Don’t first question was “If you could own a new Brit car, what would it be”? Don replied
a new Jaguar F-Type. When asked why, Don responded with “Why not? Are you kidding?
It’s supercharged, it’s convertible, I can get it rear or all-wheel drive, the manual 380 HP
(manual) goes 0 – 60 in 5.3 seconds and has a top speed of 171 mph. I can get a V-8 or an
eight speed.” Any more questions???
Don certainly rose to the challenge on that question. Amy, (Don’s lovely wife) did you get
all that? (I think I may have just envisioned an eye roll or two.)
Next question was to rate the following as your preference for 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice for
events: Cruise-in (1st); 100-mile round trip drive (2nd); Fun Rally (3rd). I’m sure Michael
Rains, our Events Coordinator, was listening carefully to these answers while clicking
through in his mind all of the events he already has on the calendar.
Last question was “What can I count on you to help with at this year’s BCD?” Of course,
in Don’s always generous spirit, he said he would be there to help set up and tear down
and anything else that I need him to do.
Don has great Club spirit and attitude and is always there to lend a hand. In fact, he vol-
unteered to be our Membership Coordinator this year and is doing a great job.
To go back to the beginning, I want to reiterate that it’s all in fun and provides a com-
fortable atmosphere for folks to share some of themselves with us, thus allowing us to
“Get to Know You”!
Thank you to Don for being such a good sport and letting us Get to Know Him!
I hope to see lots of you at upcoming meetings and events, and who knows, you may be
the one we get to know better at the April meeting. I know we’d all enjoy that!

Charleston, 3 years ago. He owns a TR7 that is in various stages of development. He is
presently serving as the Club Membership officer.

event. She had information sheets on future car shows to share with everyone.
Membership > Don is keeping up with the membership list and is coordinating with Dave, Bruce,
and Mert.
Editor > Dave discussed what was being done to the club website. Members can now change their
profile information; pay dues; review the classified page; check on events; read the Windscreen;
and in the future be able to purchase Regalia items online.
Events

everyone to check the website for updates and events. Club emails will be sent as these
events are finalized.

Harry and Wanda Crammers Oyster Roast By Bob and Maria Simons
You either know what I'm talking about or you don't, and either way my words will fall short. On
the first Saturday in March approximately forty LBC aficionados and friends gathered for one of
the British Car Club’s highlight events: the oyster roast at Wanda and Harry Crammer’s house. If
you participated in the oyster roast you know how great it was and if you missed it then just un-
derstand that this event enjoys our club's highest participation rate for good reason.
While the twenty-or-so "LBC"s in attendance provided an elegant perimeter, this event focuses on
the membership, not the cars or club business. Like a covered dish church supper, we had a great
evening just catching up with old friends and making new ones (and eating!) - Activities hard to do
when rallying thru the countryside or trying to decide best of show. The weather was perfect,
dry for a change and just cool enough to keep the bugs down and justify a warming fire. The con-
versation was scintillating, the side dishes varied and delicious and the plentiful oysters expertly
steamed to perfection. And the stew - oh my, the stew!

The BCCC Website By Dave Rosato
It’s great to see the BCCC website being used more and more. The front page has registered about 10,000 hits since the new site was launched! Between Michael Rains and myself, we keep the calendar of upcoming events up-to-date. So you can depend on getting the latest information from the site. The For Sale/Wanted page has become an instant hit. If you are looking for something or have something to sell, fill in the form on the website. You can upload pictures if you have them. If you don’t want your contact infor-mation on the site, the interested party will be instructed to use the form to contact the WebMaster. I will then pass on the contact information. Please look at the BCCC website as dynamic. I’m always looking for suggestions on how we can make it better, easier to use or more useful. If you haven’t already, request a Members login by clicking on the Members menu. This will allow you to go to the Members only page. From there you can view or modify your profile.

Toad in the Hole
Well here’s a strange name for a recipe: Toad in the Hole! It is a distinctly British recipe combining two very British foods: sausage, and Yorkshire pudding. Toad in the hole is a relatively simple dish ingredient-wise, how-ever it can be hard to perfect. The trick is to preheat the casserole dish. Serve this meal with an onion gravy, or a mustard, and with a side of vegetables and mashed potatoes.
TOAD IN THE HOLE. (makes 4 servings)
Directions
1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and pepper. Make a well in the center of the flour. Pour in the eggs, milk, and 2 tablespoons melted butter and whisk until the flour is smooth. Cover and let stand 30 minutes.
2. Coat the bottom and sides of an 8″x12″ casserole dish with a high smoke point vegetable oil. (Extra light olive oil, sunflower oil, peanut oil) Set the oven rack in the lower-third of the oven. Place the empty casse-role dish on the rack and preheat the oven to 425F.
3. While the oven is heating, heat a tablespoon of oil on a skillet on medium heat. Add the sausages and brown them on at least a couple sides. When the sausages have browned and the dish in the oven is hot, pull the oven rack out a bit. Put the sausages in the casserole dish, and pour the batter over the sausages, throwing the sprigs of rosemary in with the batter. Cook for 20-30 minutes, or until the batter is risen and golden. Do not open the oven too soon, or the batter will collapse.
4. While the dish cooks, cook the onions and remaining 2 tablespoons butter in the skillet until the onions have softened and browned (about 5 minutes). Add the garlic and thyme and saute 30 seconds or until fragrant. Add the balsamic vinegar and cook it down to about half. Add the bullion cube and stir. Sprinkle with a little water, let simmer, then serve with the toad in the hole.
5. Enjoy!
