    Community Medicine

    -branch of science that deals with identification andsolution of health problems in population groups

    Difference in performing a diagnosis in Clinical vs.Community Medicine:

    Clinical CommunityDiagnose and Individual Diagnose a communityLook for signs andsymptoms of the patient

    Gather and inspect datarecords (ie Regional HealthUnit records, Hospitalrecords, etc.)

    In perspective:

    4 KEY CHALLENGES IN HEALTH REFORM

    1. Relevance

    -Must be relevant to needs of the community/country

    -For examples, in the Philippines, you do not teach RockyMountain Disease because it is not found in the country

    2. Quality

    -Research should have been done to ensure/giveevidence that the method is working

    -For example, you give vitamin A rather than anexperimental drug to a community

    3. Cost Effectiveness

    -Must not be too costly

    4. Equity

    -Giving more to those in need more and less to those whoneed less

    -Not based on social privileges but on need
