Current Status & future trend
Undoubtedly, the Shipping Industry has changed over
the last decades. Many International regulations have
come into force and existing ones have been amended
to become stricter, aiming to protect both life at sea and
the environment.

Challenges of Using Paper Oil Record Books
MARPOL, the ISM code and Port State Control have become stricter and have put emphasis on recording every event on board. As a result, this has affected crew efficiency, has added administrative work, and calls for a more effective and efficient system.
Challenges
• Inaccurate record keeping of operations• Erroneous entries
• Failure to properly maintain adequate records onboard
• False statements which cannot be verified
• Time consuming process/ inefficient
• Heavy paperwork and administrative burden
4
Consequences of Deficiencies in Oil Record Books
• Criminal and civil action by the U.S. Department of Justice against ship owners and crew
• Costly and lengthy procedures in court
• Fines for vessels managers and owners
• Career damage and seafarer penalization
• Vessel detentions
• Potential pollution through illegal actions onboard
• Adverse effect on fleet trading abilities
• Damaging ship operator reputation

Solution: Electronic Oil Record Book (-ORB)
An electronic oil record book is a software applicationdesigned to replace the traditional paper oil record books(ORB) (Part I and Part II) and facilitate accurate ORB entries intoan efficient electronic format while complying with internationalconventions and flag State requirements with regards toelectronic log books.
The ε-ORB is designed in accordance with the MARPOLrequirements, ISO 9001:2008 requirements and is tested in orderto establish

Maritime Software – ε-ORB certification & feedback
1) The system is friendly to the user. At the moment I am satisfied with the interface and reports. The reports are simple and clear.
2) The automated updating of the tank content, automated selection of the e-ORB Codes and automated warning, contribute to the prevention of potential mistakes by the user. I can confirm this because it was tested with opposite scenarios.
3) I believe yes, because it is time to change to the new computer technologies.4) I hope that this program will help to avoid mistakes, non-conformances and
potential fines.5) During the test, the support team is assisting and helping in different
situations. I am satisfied with explanations from the makers.6) I think the time of inspection will be reduced, as it will not be necessary to
recalculate entries and verification of tables.
