AIRPLANE PRETEND PLAY Pack

AIRPORT SIGNS

1. Mount each sign in a different area of the room. 2.Optional: Add books for passengers to read in the waiting

area. Place empty suitcases in baggage claim. Move a small desk underneath the check in sign for airline employees to use as a ticket counter.

TICKETS

1. Depending on your children’s writing ability, print out several copies of the blank tickets for them to fill in on their own or print copies of the pre-written tickets.

Note: Laminating the blank tickets would allow kids to write on them with a Vis a Vis, wipe them off when they’re finished, and then write on them again.}

PASSPORTS

1. Cut apart the passports. 2.Fold each one in half. 3. Optional: When children reach their destination and leave the

airplane, stamp their passport.

Chair LABELS

1. Cut out the seat labels. 2.Line several chairs up side-by-side. Attach one of the labels

to the back of each one. 3. Have students sit in the seat assigned to them on their ticket.

Doctor’s Office PRETEND PLAY

Office SIGNS

1. Mount each sign in a different area of the room. 2.Optional: Add books for patients to read in the waiting area.

Give doctors a button up white shirt to use as a lab coat. Place a play weighing scale, stethoscope, thermometer and other doctor’s kit supplies in the exam rooms. Attach a measuring tape to the wall for doctor’s to measure patients’ heights.

NAME TAGS

1. Depending on your children’s preferences, print and cut out either the prewritten nametags or the blank ones. Laminating the blank tags allows kids to write on them with a Vis a Vis, wipe them off when they’re finished, and then write on them again.}

2.Hot glue each name tag to a clothespin so that children can put it on their shirts easily.

1. Mount the boutique sign near the entrance of the store. 2.Glue the open and closed signs front to back and attach a

string loop to the top to make a sign that children can flip from {open} to {closed}.

POST Office PRETEND PLAY

Office SIGNS

1. Mount the Post Office sign at the entrance of the play area. 2.Attach the Outgoing Mail sign to the side of a large box. Cut a

slit in the top so that children can easily drop in outgoing mail.

MAILBOX SIGNS

1. Depending on the supplies you have on hand, use either the large mailbox signs or the small ones. For the large signs – glue each mailbox number to the BACK of a 9 x 12 mailing envelope. Then roll tape and stick it on the FRONT of the envelope. Attach the FRONT of each envelope to the wall. Children will be able to slide mail into the envelope flap at the top.

Mailboxes {cont.}

For the small signs – attach each mailbox number to the front of a paper bag or a small basket. Line them up side by side.

POSTCARDS

1. Cut apart the prewritten notes and place them in the outgoing mailbox so that postal workers can sort into the proper mailbox.

2.Make copies of the blank postcards and place them in a writing area along with pens or pencils. Invite customers to write notes and add them to the outgoing box when they’re finished.

STAMPS

1. Cut apart the stamps and place them in a basket along with a glue stick. Add the basket to the writing area and encourage customers to glue a stamp to their postcards when they are finished writing.

POSTAL WORKER BADGES

1. Cut apart the badges. 2.Depending on the supplies you have available, attach them to a

visor or hat to make a uniform cap. Hot glue them to clothespins to make a badge. Punch two holes in the top and string a piece of yarn through them to make a hanging badge.

CONSTRUCTION SIGNS

1. Mount the construction signs near the play area.

STOP-SLOW SIGNS

1. Cut out the stop and slow signs. 2.Glue a thin wooden dowel to the back of one sign. 3. Glue the second sign back-to-back to the first. The traffic

controller should now be able to flip the sign back and forth from stop to slow.

BUILDING PERMITS

1. Depending on children’s writing abilities, make copies of either the prewritten or blank building permits.

2.Clip them to a clipboard and give them to the building inspector.

WORK ORDERS

1. Make copies of the work orders and cut them apart. 2.Clip them to a board along with a pen or pencil children can use

to record their to-do list. 3. Optional: Add pretend play work tools to the construction play

area. Place safe objects workers can “fix” like torn boxes or flashlights that need new batteries. Give children dump trucks, bull dozers, etc. to drive. Add a box of Legos workers can use to make buildings, walls and more.

OPERATOR’s LICENSE

1. Cut apart the licenses and give each construction equipment operator one. Explain that the building inspector may ask to see them at any time during the work day so it’s important that they keep the licenses in a safe spot.
