Context of the fair

The professional trade show Maison & Objet (www.maison-objet.com), known as THE trend-setting fair in the field of interior design, decoration and high end lifestyle, receives more than 85,000 visitors from 160 different countries, 3,000 exhibitors, and thousands of specialized journalists from all over the world. A lighting designers duo, in good company

The lighting designers, Akari-Lisa Ishii and Motoko Ishii are invited by the organizer to present the latest trends in lighting at the Maison & Objet trade fair every September.

This Japanese-French mother-daughter, leading lighting designers duo produces official exhibition of M&O « Light Trend » since 7 years(2013 to 2019).

Thanks to a mastered know-how and a constantly renewed creativity, the designers imagine each year a new original theme for the stand. It offers to visitors a sensorial voyage of lights, made of ad-vanced art installations, reinvented at each exhibition.

In order to raise awareness of light trends, they select precisely exclusive lighting materials (ready-made or order-made light sources, luminous materials, artistic applications, control technologies and others) but also other designed objects or furniture in correlation, and call for manufacturers as partners.

The exhibition demonstrate the “musts” for the targeted visitors and journalists.

Thanks to the technology evolution, lighting plays a more and more important role in interior design, especially in the luxury market. It is therefore not surprising that Maison&Objet is dedicating an official exhibition and developing this close partnership with the designers (large stand at strategic location, with advantage commu-nication campaign ...) in order to promote it to the visitors from all over the world.

Our exhibition “Light Trend” aims to:- present the latest technologies in lighting;- discover the worldwide know-how of lighting design;- suggest integration of light and fixtures in a space design;- offer an exclusive lighting experiences, created just for this occasion;- share the experiences with all opinion leaders in the decoration field from all over the world.

This official exhibition on today’s lighting design consists with subtle blend of technology and artistic expression. A double vision that comes from not only the universal technical contribution, but also conceptions from European and Japanese cultures - the force of our two creators. Our stand takes benefit of the cutting-edge lighting of our partners (from Japanese traditional craftsmanship to the most high-tech European products). This year the M&O fair chose a topic:LET’S WORK TOGETHER (Making Workplaces feel like home)

“Our new relationship with work, driven by social change, is reinventing the office. Digitization is making us more mobile and liberating us from traditional work settings. Work is now nomadic. Collaborative and participatory tools have led to the rise of co-working spaces, which offer a more enjoyable and interactive way to work. ln the age of social media and rugged individualism, employees are taking ownership of their workspace and personalizing it.Faced with these new challenges, manufacturers, distributors, space planners and fitters are turning to residential design to give workspaces more personality and make! Them more friendly, comfor-table and creative, helping companies attract and retain talent.” by M&O

Thus for this September edition, a new dedicated area, “WORK!”, of 1000 m2 is set up to gather the players of this sector. Furniture offers for the offices layout and new workspaces are highlighted, where the exhibitors would meet the needs of this new development. A dedicated itinerary to identify them throughout the fair will be also proposed.

On the program, you can also find the conferences animated by experts of this theme, including Akari-Lisa Ishii for the lighting.

Being aware of the rapid change where the lifestyle in the office meets the intrusion of homy ambience and the otherway around, our producers chose to focus their exhibition on light trends accordingly. Each year, Light Trend’s direction is carefully studied accordingly with the theme of the show. This year’s exhibition is therefore for the sub-theme: “In progress ; )”

Advances in lighting technologies are going quickly, they are becoming more high-tech, more connected, more integrated in the furniture, smarter, more centered on the human ... Their potential is very broad today. For this edition, the team wished to make them accessible to visitors by featuring the lighting atmosphere of the home office. The exhibition will complementary to the WORK! Space located just in the next block.

The theme can be summarized as follows:As the relation between Work and Home is evolving quickly today, the design trends of residence and office mingle. Our WORK is IN PROGRESS ; )This year, the exhibition imagines a home office apartment where innovative, smart and human- centric lighting answers to the new needs:COMFORT / CONVIVIALITY / CREATIVITY / ILLUMINANCE / BEAUTY / CALM / NATURE / WELL-BEING / AUTONOMY / MODULARITY / TECHNOLOGY / ADAPTABILITY / CONNECTIVITY / INTERACTIVITY

To illustrate this concept and meet the new needs of today’s working persons, the booth consists of 4 spaces: reception, entrance room, living room and terrace; reconstituting a Parisian apartment in which you can work but also relax and live.

4 spaces for 4 experiences:

Golden welcome

As soon as you enter the Hall 6, your eyes would be attracted by the beautiful glow of a golden luminous objet exceeding the height of the stands. “Golden fall” is a cascade of chains lit by the latest generation golden spotlight that was created in 2018 for the show: “Eiffel Tower dressed in Japanese Lights”.

This technological innovation was the first golden light in the world and had a great success during the previous edition of Light Trend, just before application on the famous Parisian monument. Today it is diverted to create a bright artwork that expresses the theme of the exhibition from afar and welcomes you. You will also find a part of it inside the booth.

In addition, two other spots highlight the reception wall. Their sober design is suitable for any archi-tectural design. Their “sunlike” LED source diffuses a high quality light spectrum, very close to that of the daylight, good for the eye.

From the outside you can observe through some veiled windows inside the stand, imagined as an apartment: candles, a view on the Eiffel Tower, multifunctional furniture etc. Enter to see more!Under the light objet, our staffs welcome you and answer any questions. From the right you will enter the Parisian home office apartment.

Space 1. Enter the connected relaxation

You arrive in the entrance room of the apartment. We’d like to make you relax and welcome you pleasantly for your “return home” with a little bit of relaxation through the connection.

You discover, in preview, a LED candle - connected speaker, designed by Motoko Ishii & Akari-Lisa Ishii. Many of them wrap you with sound and light thanks to their IoT technology. The music specially composed for this space make surround effect.

It’s always nice to have plants for some green, but how to help them live well inside the apartment? A specific LED helps them to grow correctly.

Aestheticism also has its place in a good environment. Paintings drawn by the touch of a latest laser technology give the arty touch. This laser is very precise and the beam moves without the device turns.

This space benefits a general “smart lighting”. Recessed ceiling spotlights are elegant and equipped with high quality LEDs, suitable for high-end interior decoration.Their lamps are connected by Bluetooth and create their own network. They don’t only light but also measure the temperature, the humidity, the number of visitors in the room etc. and display them on the connected tablet.

Space 2. Living with multifunctional lights

For the living room, we imagined a space filled with luminous tips that make it multifunctional, while being compact and comfortable. You can work, relax, dine with your family ... A home & work space to discover.

There are tables and chairs that some of you’d recognize from a previous edition. Today they are version 2.0. A new series of furniture inspired by wood and lacquer from the Japanese tradition, realized especially for this fair, which transforms according to the use: working desk, dining table, workshop venue with your child ... Anything is possible.

In the same range, was added a day-bed. It can be used as a work chair, relaxation seat and so on. A special mattress completes it. You can appreciate the high quality comfort and technology, for any uses. This product made in Japan is already reputated in the world of luxury.

An innovative system of mini-video-projectors on lighting tracks enlarges the space of the home office while providing a feeling of relaxation. These beautiful landscapes projected on the wall rein-force the soothing on the day-bed. With the same projector, on another wall, you find the installation “Metamo-room”, the bed that changes the mood thanks to the projection and sound (2017 edition). On the opposite side, you can see “Golden fall” again.

Space 2. Living with multifunctional light (continued)

Many other tips are hidden in this space. Raise your eyes, and discover motorized spots that can change direction, zoom and vary the light intensity depending on the layout of the furniture. It creates enough modularity with very reliable devices.

To light your plates, your papers etc., a series of table lamp and floor lamp is presented. Their hexagonal shape comes from a traditional Japanese motif, reputed to bring good luck. The materials and textiles use for the lamps match to those of a high-end interior. The internal techno-logy «tunable white» allows a variation of white tone and intensity. A combination of comfort and design, good vibes and a tailored light designed by Akari-Lisa Ishii.

Ambient lighting is provided by recessed ceiling spotlights with human-centric lighting. The white tone and the intensity are varied according to the time of day thanks to a miniaturized high-tech controlling system. Here, modularity is combined with attention to biological rhythm for your well-being. The light effect on your body is not negligible. For more information, you can see the explanation board about the “human centric lighting” in this room.

Finally, you’d appreciate the delicate scent that pleases your nostrils. It is “The Earth”, the official room fragrance of the exhibition. An innovative Asian theory, “aromacology” develops the idea of compositions of scents that can both be conducive to concentration and relaxation at the same time. An explicit subject that could be meditated...

Space 3. A terrace with a view and more

From the window of the space 2, you saw a show on the Eiffel Tower. Now you can watch it from the terrace comfortably surrounded by natural and bright elements.

On last September 13 and 14, Motoko Ishii and Akari-Lisa Ishii produced the flagship event of the Japonismes 2018, a diplomatic show of sound and light that concealed the beauties of Japan on a Parisian monument: «Eiffel Tower dressed in Japanese Lights». The golden spot created especially for this project and the latest generation Japanese laser image projector were used then. The preview of the show aroused a lot of interests of visitors during the edition of Light Trend 2018. That’s why today, you can enjoy this event by projection from the terrace.

Pleasant mattresses awaits you to see the show comfortably, work or relax with your family ... Simply placed on the floor or arranged on a bed, but not just a bed! It was designed for the Tokyo 2020 big sport events. Ecological in particular because of its cardboard structure, it also holds a specific mattress: combination-free according to the weight and physique of the athletes ... or yours.

To work, live or relax at night on the terrace, here are different outdoor lighting proposals: a connec-ted bollard is not only a light device but also is a wifi modem or battery charger. Its modern concrete finish is perfect for a terrace or garden, completed by a discreet floor lighting.Nature has also its place. A luminous designed pot offers a landscaping enhancement. And luminous objets stylized in the form of reeds bring a decorative touch.
