Dear Fellow Congregants, Rabbi Uri and I would like to thank each of you for meaningful Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur services. Our beautiful holidays would not have been possible without the hard work of many. A special thank you to our Gabbai, Irwin Lachoff, who sacrifices so much of his own experience to manage the service and include so many of you in the davening in meaningful ways. Thank you also to our Gabbai Sheini, Isaac Pollack. Cantor Mati Rosenbaum’s davening was even better than last year, and his sweet personality and Israeli flavor adds so much to our community. This year we were also joined by Ben Elton, from Yeshivat Chovevei Torah, who davened Shacharit and taught several classes, both in his engaging British accent. As usual, Yehudah Halper leined the Torah flawlessly, as he does every Shabbat. Alex Barkoff, Leo Golubitsky and Stephen Blitz helped to set the sanctuary up for the High Holidays, and also assisted as ushers along with Roselle Ungar, Blayne Gothard, Chink Lepow, and Hal Ungar. Rebbetzin Dahlia and Georgette Somjen also worked so hard to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the shule. We were treated to a robust Yom Kippur Mincha davening by Hal Ungar, as well as a beautiful Israeli Bond Address by Rachael Kansas, two of our young members and upcoming leaders. And as always, Rabbi David was on hand to do everything asked of him, from shofar blowing, to first aid, to building maintenance, to furniture moving. Shirl Watsky has become a mainstay in our office and we appreciate her warmth and nickel tours of the new shul. Finally, a thank you to all our past presidents who held the Torahs for Kol Nidrei and stood by our Holy Ark for Neilah. Your presence and leadership continue to guide us into our future. Working for Beth Israel for the past seven years has been the most rewarding experience of my life. I had the opportunity to play a significant role in the rebirth of a synagogue which is important to many people for many different reasons. I have seen cooperation between people and institutions result in achievements which surpassed our most ambitious goals. I have come to know quality people with whom I would never have worked closely but for our common passion for our shule. The life lessons from the Beth Israel story are many. We see with our eyes hard evidence of the results which can be reached through resolve, perseverance, faith, prayer and tzedakah. Hopefully each of you has some take away from our collective experience which will help you to confront difficulties in the future. Hopefully each of you share my pride in our shule, and understand the significance of our accomplishments. (Continued on next page.) Dear Fellow Congregants,

Rabbi Uri and I would like to thank each of you for meaningful Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur services.

INTERESTED IN CUB SCOUTS?

Parents are welcome for an

informational meeting with regional

coordinator, Yoni Sunshine on

Monday, October 29 at 5:30PM.

Cub Scouts is for boys in grades 1-5.

In my Yom Kippur address, I shared thoughts about the chain which links the Jewish people to one another and to history. I do not envision a typical chain with metal links, used to bind someone against their will. I picture each link of our chain as the beautiful blend of millions of strands, each of which represents each of us. Alone, we do not have the strength to sustain the chain of Jewish continuity. But together, our strands merge into a powerful voice which, with millions of others, chants the universal message of the Shema across the globe. Together, we support Jewish education at every level as the necessary tool to deliver a message of ethics, love, humility and peace to all of humanity. Together, our strands unite to declare our solidarity with Israel and our Israeli brothers and sisters. And we refused to allow Beth Israel to perish only because we merged our strands of loss, commitment and resolve into a powerful force with which we accomplished the remarkable.

As I conclude my final address as Beth Israel’s President, I offer no humor, sarcasm or nonsense. With no agenda whatsoever, I hope that if you have been involved at Beth Israel, you share my desire and intention to stay involved. If you have not been involved, I ask you to please consider joining us. This is not an exhortation to help carry the load, nor a guilt-laden plea that we must have your attendance and your money. This is a sincere and simple invitation to be part of something meaningful and quite special, from which you will hopefully experience some level of the satisfaction and gratitude that I feel. See you over Sukkot!

Sincerely,

Eddie Gothard, President
