The Effective Auditor: Understanding and Applying Emotional Intelligence
Have you ever encountered a “difficult person” while engaged in an audit? Do you wonder why your com-
munications get through to some people but others seem to have heard a different message? Auditors
need specific technical skills to be successful in their jobs, but that’s only half the picture. They need to be
able to deal with all kinds of people, too. Research indicates approximately one-third of the difference be-
tween top and average performance is due to technical skill and cognitive ability. The remaining two-thirds
is attributed to emotional competence.
The early registration discount for this course ends on Friday, October 30, 2015. Prices will increase $100
per person after the 30th. Visit www.iiasask.ca for more details.

Mastering Risk
The State of Risk Management in Canada 2015
In early 2015, Crowe Risk Consulting, in collaboration with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Canada, launched an inaugural survey of risk management professionals to identify best practices in internal au-dit and risk management in Canadian organizations. This survey was undertaken as part of an ongoing initia-tive to recognize organizations that have demonstrated sustained efforts toward mastering risk.
The respondents represented a broad cross-section of Canadian industries and organizations, with heavy representation from the public sector and the banking, insurance, and financial services industries.
Crowe Risk Consulting interviewed select organizations and prepared candidate files for evaluation and recognition by an eminent jury of risk and audit professionals.
On October 15, 2015 Crowe Risk Consulting and IIA Canada hosted the inaugural Mastering Risk Awards, a thought leadership program culminating in the release of an IIA Canada whitepaper and presentation of Can-ada's first Mastering Risk Awards for achievement in internal audit and risk management frameworks and practices. To see the winners and read more, please click here https://chapters.theiia.org/IIA%20Canada/News/Pages/White-Paper-Released-at-Mastering-Risk-Awards.aspx
The IIA Canada and Crowe Risk Consulting wish to thank the nearly 120 survey participants, the award nom-
inees, the Steering Committee and our eminent Jury for their roles leading to the event's celebration of out-
standing achievement.
