Well the past two years have blown by rather quickly it seems. Almost time to pass the torch on to your new Presi-dent and Board of Directors! They will
officially assume their roles with the close of June. Thank you by the way to everyone who made it to the May general meeting for our annual elec-tions. I know that our special guest and Region 5 Director, Bryan Hutton, was impressed to see a solid showing at this meeting. I would like to thank Bryan for joining us and for sharing the complimentary words on behalf of the Society with regard to our annual product show. It speaks very well for everyone involved in our annual prod-uct show when we receive this kind of acknowledgement and recognition from the national level! Thank you to ALL participants for helping to make the Houston Chapter stand out.
We are getting very close to our break for the summer but we are not quite there yet. Details are still being finalized, but please mark your calen-dars for our annual joint meeting with ASSE and IAPMO coming up on the evening of Wednesday, June 17th. I know I have said this several times, but this really is a uniquely enjoyable meeting. Different venue, very laid back, and a diverse

Just a couple things to keep y'all in-formed of:
Planning for the 2015 ASPE Hous-ton Chapter Holiday Party is now underway. Your BOD has asked So-cial Director Vic Schneider, Jr. to secure a date for this event and move forward.
In lieu of a summer social outing, your BOD has tasked our new AYP Liaison, Jesse Bain, with planning the Houston Chapter's first official AYP (ASPE Young Professionals) event. You will recall that this is part of the Society's larger initiative to engage younger members (35 and younger) and get them more actively involved in the industry and the Soci-ety. Stay tuned for further details.
In closing, thank you all for allowing me to serve as your President over the past two years. I am a bit sad to be moving on but I am also tremen-dously excited for the future of the Chapter. We have some bright, en-ergetic, and creative people in our organization!

Local 68 Plumber's Union Hall. Ken Borski with the City of Houston will be speaking, so it should be an engaging meet-ing. The gathering will start at 5:30pm with the bar being sponsored by Cougar Sales, Inc! Make sure you RSVP online so we can let the Hall know how many of our mem-bers will be in attendance. The meeting will cost $10 (cash only please) per attendee and in-clude a BBQ dinner!

Q-Will I be notified on my pending membership drop? A- The first notice actually goes out 90 days before your expiration date and the final notice goes out the same month of your expiration date.
Q-How can I make sure my membership doesn’t lapse?
A- Sometime after your first notice and before your “Drop” date go to https://aspe.org/RenewMembership , sign in and follow the prompts. It takes about 3 minutes and too easy not to do on line.

Anthony Jaspal, President, called the Houston Chap-ter BOD meeting to order at 11:30 a.m. on May 15, 2015 at Pappasito’s on 290 and Hollister. Present were Anthony Jaspal (AJ), Daniel Leos (DL), David Clark (DC), Freddie Landaverde (FL), Curtis Dady (CD), Michael Green (MG), Brandi Rocha, Jesse Bain (JB), David Cropper (DCR) and Donald Thomas (DT). A motion to approve the April BOD meeting minutes as published in the newsletter was passed. AJ noted he did not have any dues rebate checks in hand. AJ noted the next BOD meeting would be on Friday, June 12, 2015. AJ noted that the name on the credit card will be changed when the new BOD takes over. AJ noted the 2015-2016 Chapter Calen-dar needs to be prepared and distributed to the BOD. This includes General Meetings and BOD meeting dates. AJ noted the Region 5 monthly Presidents conference call on Friday May 8th and provided high-lights from the call. AJ noted that the National chap-

Anthony Jaspal (AJ), Chap-ter President, called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the HESS Club in Houston, Texas. AJ thanked everyone for coming. An-thony invited Jerry Harris to lead the Chapter in Prayer. Bryan Hutton followed by
leading the Chapter in the Pledge of Allegiance. AJ recognized the past presidents who were in atten-dance; Dave Cropper, Placido Vera, Chris Ennis, Michael Green, and Emigdio Hinojosa, Jr. AJ recog-nized Jerry Harris a Charter Member. AJ also recog-nized Bryan Hutton, the Region 5 Director of ASPE. Chapter Officers and Committee Heads present were; Anthony Jaspal (President), Chris Ennis (VP Membership), Christine Moseley (Historian), Dave Cropper (Region 5 Affiliate Liaison), Jim Ivey (Advertising Chair), David Clark (Administrative Sec-retary), Geoffrey Moore (Treasurer), Curtis Dady (Newsletter Editor), Jesse Bain (AYP Liason), Freddie Landaverde (Corresponding Secretary). AJ
asked for a show of hands from affiliates regarding the need for a meeting to see if they were interested in attend-ing a meeting on the past Product Show. About 6-8 people expressed interest. AJ noted the upcoming joint meeting with ASSE & IAPMO at the Plumbers Union Hall. Cougar Sales will sponsor the bar. AJ collected business cards from those who were interested in attending the Technical Symposium in St. Louis. AJ noted that CEU certificates will be handed out after the lunch meetings. Please see D. Clark for the certificates after the meeting. AJ provided Jim Ivey and Daniel Leos with the President’s award. He noted how both of these members wear so many hats for the Chapter and thanked them both for all of their time, effort and energy they contribute to the Chapter. CE recognized new members in attendance. CE provided Jerry Farmer with a 10 year tenure pin. AJ presented Stephen and Ste-phenson with the Best Booth Award from the 2015 Product Show. Bryan Hutton commented the ASPE Houston Chap-ter on the product show and how well it was run. He noted that it is annually one of the best shows in the country put on by a local Chapter. Elections were held at the meeting. A motion was held nominating the officers presented. The members in attendance voted to approve the new board as

AJ noted the BOD meeting dates for Pappasitos is secured thru June 12, 2015 and needs to be scheduled for the next calendar year. DCR noted that the last CIC meet-ing had very poor attendance. AJ to forward all treasury reports to Brian Hutton, the Region 5 Director. DC noted that at the last Chapter meeting handing out certificates after the meeting worked well. BR noted that there was positive feedback from the last product show. Board agreed to have the Product Show Chairman’s term will be for 2 years. BR noted a couple of adjustments on the regis-tration for next year. The appreciation dinner was tenta-tively scheduled for June 13th, 2015. DCR to schedule a

Can we talk?
As I write this on May 24th, I am multitasking – marking plots for a full level ICU reno, listening to Oli North’s “War Stories”, eating garlic shrimp… And – doing this – perhaps another of those musings which will be deemed by some as “off target” for our ASPE-HOU “mission”. I am writing in advance of Memorial Day; you will be reading after-ward, after your gatherings of family and friends, BB-Qs, pool parties, dance competitions, concerts and sports events viewed or experienced. Due to the ICU, my 3-day week end will be largely solitary – however I was able to break this morning for my church.
I am privileged to attend a church located in the Galleria which is pastored by a man who wore his dress uniform this morning – he is a retired Army Ranger Major who read the Metal of Honor citation for one of our congregation awarded for “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity” in the Viet Nam conflict. We sang my favorite verse of “The Star Spangled Banner” which goes “Oh thus be it ever where free men shall stand - between their loved homes and the wars desolation; blessed with victory and peace may this heaven rescued land, praise the Power that has made and preserved us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, and this be our motto ‘In God is our Trust’. And the Star Spangled banner in triumph shall waive, over the land of the free and the home of the brave.” (Pres. Geo W. missed a great chance when he did not publish and insisted we hence forth sing only this verse after 9-11.)
Between bible teaching sessions, our organist played a medley of the various services’ anthems – each man or women who served in that particular service “popped to” when their anthem was played. Still – perhaps the best was a complete reading of Macarthur’s speech at the dedication of Macarthur Park in 1954 – Google the speech; it is worth reading in entirety. The General’s description of the “greatest generation” is moving. Of his “Citizen Sol-diers” he said “…I do not know the circumstances of their birth, but I do know the dignity of their death.” They “burned out in searing minutes all that life owed them of tranquil years” and “with the dreadful gurgle of the death rattle in their throats, they pleaded that we who remained would go on to victory.” Notice: victory!
Okay – you say ASPE-HOU? Hey hey – how very many years is it that we have all been allotted by these coura-geous GI’s, millions of hours to pursue our dreams, gain prosperous living conditions, and be our “own men”.
To paraphrase the General – these men emulated our Lord Christ when they gave themselves for our temporal free-dom; He Himself for our eternal spiritual freedom-should we choose to recognize His sacrifice. And – as with today’s Iraqis – we are free to appreciate their (His) sacrifice …or not.
In closing – another quote which was sung by our church operatic quality soprano this morning:
“IF my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chron. 7:14.
I do not infer that any Christian group has replaced Israel as God’s people; nor do I imply that there is such a thing as a Christian nation: The USA is not a Christian nation. However – have you not noticed that we ourselves cannot extricate ourselves from our current condition in which we are stymied at every turn by over-regulation and the bully-ing of politically correct ideologies which are completely devoid of the understanding that personal excellence of character is necessary for us to continue as free men? If not free men – then, there will be NO ASPE-HOU…
