CAPITAL CITY MARCHING FESTIVALThank you for joining us today at the 27th annual Capital City Marching Festival! The Capital City Marching Festival philosophy is that all high school bands deserve support and opportunities to showcase their talent. The LBJ Jaguar Band is pleased to host this event and to welcome the best marching bands in Texas. Today, we celebrate the outstanding effort and commitment put forth by thousands of students, directors, and families to create the beautiful music and impressive shows that we will enjoy today.

LBJ High School has hosted Cap City since 1993. As we come together to share our programs, we also celebrate the camaraderie and enthusiasm demonstrated by marching band members. We hope that you will carry your memories of marching band and your experiences at Cap City throughout your music education journey.

OVERVIEW

CONCESSIONSFood and drinks are available on the home side of the stadium from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Be sure to try our famous Cap City Curly Fries! The refreshment stand on the visitor (band) side, offers more meal options this year like breakfast tacos and pizza along with drinks and snacks and is open 11:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

FIRST AIDSt. David’s Hospital is providing nurses and EMTs at the first aid station located under the blue tent just outside of the band field exit.

SOUVENIRSDon’t forget your Cap City swag! T-shirts, patches, and vintage gear are available for sale under the stands on both the home and visitor sides.

INSTRUMENT REPAIRBetter Than New Band Repair will be providing instrument repair services on the visitor (band) side from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

EVENT FORMATThere will be a preliminary round with 21 bands, followed by judges’ critique sessions and finals competition.

Preliminaries begin in the morning with Class A and each class will follow in turn.

After the preliminary competition, there will be a judges’ critique for the band directors. They will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with each judge and receive additional feedback.

Finals begin at 7:00 p.m. The top band in each class will move to the final round. Then, the next highest overall scores will fill the remaining spots. Ten bands will perform in the finals.

JUDGES

BRETT LINDSEY Brett Lindsey currently resides in Denver, Colorado. Beginning his marching career in 2011, Brett was a member of Carolina Crown from 2011-2013 and was a member of the visual staff at Crown from 2014-2016. Brett currently works as a global corporate travel manager but he works with groups around the country with design and visual choreography. He has worked for various award winning BOA and UIL performing groups such as the Keller Central High School Marching Band (2013), the LD Bell High School Marching Band (2012-2013), the Flower Mound High School Marching Band (2014-2015) and many others.

During his time at Carolina Crown Brett worked as the movement specialist with the hornline under the choreography of Michael Rosales. He specializes in creating a dance technique that is achievable for a brass-line that is compiled of all different levels of dance experience.

RYAN PRIDERyan Pride is currently a Graduate Assistant at the University of Colorado-Boulder working toward a Master’s in Percussion Performance and is an active performer and educator in the greater Denver area. Most recently, Ryan was the Assistant Director of Bands and Percussion Director for Katy High School in Katy, TX. This will be his fifth year with Phantom Regiment and first in the role of Battery Coordinator.

Originally from Pflugerville, TX, Ryan holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from Texas State University. He has worked with numerous programs in Texas and Georgia. As a band director, Ryan worked at the James E. Pearce College Preparatory Academy and Katy High School. In addition to teaching, Ryan is an active composer and arranger and has written for many programs in Texas, Mississippi, and Georgia. Ryan is endorsed by Dynasty, Inc., as a Pro Artist, Innovative Percussion, Inc., as an educational artist, is an Honorary Member of the fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi Iota Chapter, and is a member of the Percussive Arts Society and Texas Music Educators Association. He lives in Boulder, CO with his wife, Dr. Katie Harper, and son Emerson.

FERD VOLLMAR, VISUAL JUDGEFerd Vollmar began his teaching career at Briesemeister Middle School in Seguin, Texas, in 1975. Since then, Mr. Vollmar has enjoyed a successful teaching career working with students from elementary through the university level, serving as Director of Bands at several Texas high schools as well as Professor of Music Education at the University of the Incarnate Word and the University of Texas.

Mr. Vollmar holds a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Sam Houston State University and a Master of Music Degree from the University of Houston. Mr. Vollmar is an active adjudicator, clinician, and music curriculum consultant in Texas and throughout the Southwest. He has served UIL and TMEA in many different positions, including Region 12 Band Division Chairman, representative on the State UIL Music Advisory Committee, and contest host for UIL State Marching Band Contest since 2003. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Phi Beta Mu, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

T. ANDRÉ FEAGIN, MUSICDr. T. André Feagin is the assistant director of bands at Colorado State University (CSU) where he serves as the conductor of the Symphonic Band as well as directs and provides organizational leadership of all CSU athletic bands. Prior to this appointment, he served as director of bands at Coastal Carolina University and associate director of bands at the University of Texas at El Paso. His public school teaching experience include serving as director of bands at Watkins Overton High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (TN). Dr. Feagin has appeared with numerous all-state and regional honor bands throughout the United States, Canada, and Southeast Asia. He has presented clinics on conducting and the marching arts with teaching experience in Drum Corps International spanning two decades.

Dr. Feagin holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in wind conducting from the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music, a Master of Music degree in wind conducting, and a Bachelor of Music in performance from the University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music.
