The TETRA market

• Shipments of terminals is a good indicator of the health of the market.

• 2013 showed a record number of terminal shipments• More than 3 million installed base• Two thirds are from Public Safety

MCPTT Standardisation

• MCPTT is a complex task• Further work to be based on existing work from

– 3GPP– OMA– ETSI-TCCE

• 3GPP has created a dedicated working group to deal with Mission Critical Applications for LTE – SA6


Spectrum

• For critical communications users to truly benefit from LTE - spectrum is essential

• TETRA– 380-400 MHz– 410-430 MHz

• 700MHz band likely to be allocated to Mobile use at WRC 2015

• Lobbying regulators at a national level is essential

• Users and industry benefit from standards based solutions– Lower prices– More choice– Greater innovation– etc.

Making choices

• Many applications do not need broadband• TETRA was designed for Mission Critical Voice– excellent ambient noise performance– High degree of specialised functionality– Large choice of purpose built terminals

• For Broadband applications consider supplementing TETRA with a commercial LTE service

• Avoid proprietary solutions
