Presentation of

Timetabling of Bus Routes to

Stakeholders

Following Supreme Court Order

28th March 2008

Present Day problems of Long-

Distance Bus Transport• High Overloading during peak times

• No specific start times or end times

• No uniform travel time

• Intense competition leading to accidents• Intense competition leading to accidents

• Reduces collection of buses at one end and parking problems

• Low Utilization of Buses

• Inequitable distribution of trips between operators

• Unwanted elements control bus operations

Reasons for this situation

• No timetables, the most fundamental requirement for a qualitative passenger service.

• Poor acknowledgment of regulator and acceptance of its authority, partly due to ineffective regulation.

How do we develop a timetable?

• Method #1: Traffic day divided by the number of

buses (trips) available

• Method #2: Time between buses determined • Method #2: Time between buses determined

according to the time taken to fill the bus.

• Method #3: Time between buses determined

according to the total cost to society (i.e. to the

passenger and to the operators)
