PRESENTATION OF CHRIST
GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH
CURRENT JULY 2020
Dear Parish Family,
During the month of June our Little Lambs Sunday School class learned how the
Church utilizes different colors in the services. The kids were taught that green is
used on specific Feast Days to symbolize new life and growth.
In the month of June our community entered the Metropolis of Pittsburgh’s
“COVID-19 Green Phase.” Though the colors in the services did not change, this
green does mean that our Parish has an opportunity for new life. And that new
life is seen through your prayerful presence in our services and parish activities.
Please know that as part of this phase we are taking every possible precaution
concerning safety and hygiene. Your health and wellbeing, both physically and
spiritually, are the Church’s top concern.
There is a lot to look forward to this summer, from continuing our Adult
Education, to our COVID-19 modified East Pittsburgh Greek Fest and everything
in between. But, most of all, I look forward to welcoming you back!
If you feel unsure about returning just yet, please continue to join us on
Facebook Live. Your prayers are felt. But, if you feel ready, please join us!
Either way, I can’t wait to see you at Church!
Fr. Dean
A Note from President and Stewardship
Chairman Steve Markantone
HOPE The year 2020 has brought about more fear, anger, and mistrust then any
time in recent memory. We have seen a healthcare crisis like none other in
our life time. We have witnessed more violence than I can ever recall. Our
country is divided on so many issues. I am not writing to say what or who is
right or wrong. Each of us has our own life experiences from which we can
make these decisions.
While I was looking for something to write about this month I was searching
for information regarding Christianity and hope. I found this brief excerpt
which gave me something to think about.
Is hope a religious idea?
Hope is one of the three theological virtues of the Christian religion,
alongside faith and love. "Hope" in the Holy Bible means "a strong and
confident expectation" of future reward (see Titus 1:2). In modern
terms, hope is akin to trust and a confident expectation".
It is important for us not to lose our faith and hope!!!
Festival Update from Mary Doreza
New Normal = Change
We wake up each day thanking God for being one day closer to praying and working
together with our Ypapanti Family. First and foremost, we will see each other at Matins
and Divine Liturgy on a Sunday morning, in the very near future. Then, we will have the
opportunity to work for the Church by preparing and offering our Festival in August.
However, there will be a few adjustments in response to the world around us.
In regard to the Festival, the following adjustments have been recommended by your
Festival Committee approved by vote the Parish Council, with the hope you will
embrace them by participating in any way you can.
• Dates: Fri, Sat, Sun, Aug 21, 22, 23
• Times: 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM Fri &
Sat, 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM Sun
• Site: Parking Lot and Olympia Hall
Foyer/Portico
• Work Shifts: Fri & Sat 9-1, 1-5, 5-9,
Sun 10:30-2, 2-7
• Reduced Menu
• Pastry Baking is in progress or will be
scheduled
• Take Out Orders Only
• Phone & Online Orders
• Sponsorship Album will be enclosed
with each order
• To save space and costs, there will
be no vendor booths or live music
• We will have Greek music via a
speaker system.
• Much advertising will be done over
Social Media
• Lawn Signs will be available with
date changes
In recent months, many have experienced renewed love and joy of family living, as well
as a longing to be with others. The Festival offers us the opportunity to work together
as an “Ypapanti Family” and share the joy of hospitality with friends and neighbors.
Please pray about how you can help to make this Festival effort as successful as possible.
A more detailed mailing will be sent in the near future. While this will not be our
“normal” Festival, with your help, support, and prayers, we will do our best to make an
excellent Festival!

PRESENTATION OF CHRIST CHURCH 37TH ANNUAL YPAPANTI GREEK FOOD FESTIVAL - AUGUST 20TH TO THE 23rd, 2020
Ways You Can Contribute
• Enjoy the fellowship of working together as an “Ypapanti Team” and attend
the baking & cooking sessions or volunteer for one more shift than you did last
year at the Festival. And don’t forget help is always needed for set-up and
clean-up of the Festival!
• Share the Joy! Invite your friends and family to join you for a meal at the
festival; or, encourage them to volunteer for a festival shift.
• Publicize the festival! Share on social media, distribute festival tri-fold flyers to
local businesses & gathering places or display a lawn sign in your yard during the
month of August.
• The Album Ad Book! Sell an album ad to a business or sponsor an album ad for
your family.
• Ingredient Sponsorships! Help support the cost of the food ingredients by sponsoring part, or all, of your favorite!
• Be welcoming and share your festival energy with our guests.
• Pray that God will bless Ypapanti with the BEST FESTIVAL EVER!
The festival is the Parish’s largest fundraiser. Your help is very much appreciated.
