Brief Company History of MGC Technology Ltd.

1914 March 19, 1914. Moser-Glaser & Co. was formed, situated in the city of Basle. Main business: development, production and marketing of small transformers, up to 4 kVA

1921 Birth year and first supply of new developed 8 and 15 kV power transformers1922 First delivery of dry type instrument transformers for indoor application for the Swiss railway company, 15 kV & 66 kV1939 May 2, 1939. A joint stock company was formed and renamed to Moser-Glaser & Co. Ltd.1944 Development of porcelain isolated voltage transformers1946 December 20, 1946. The factory moved from Basle to the new location in Muttenz1947 Major break through in the field of insulation materials: first delivery of 20 kV epoxy cast resin insulated instrument

transformers, SILESCA, completely developed by MGC. Manufacturing of 500 & 1000 kV test transformers and 380 kVoil isolated voltage transformers

1958 Birth year of the bushings and busbars technology, DURESCA, based on the RIP (resin insulated paper) technology1982 New SF6 isolated instrument transformers, GASCOIL are developed and produced by MGC1990 New SF6 isolated busbar system, GASLINK, was developed and produced in co-operation with the Siemens company1996 MGC developed a new partially isolated busbar system, TIRESCA1999 MGC Technology Ltd. is established2001 Take over by the company Pfiffner Messwandler AG, Hirschtal, Switzerland

    Choice of Conductor

Aluminium anticorodal (AC041 - EWAA no. 6101) is better suited than copper because of the following reasons:

Mechanical characteristicsCopper must be heavily heated for bending and welding with loss of mechanical strength

Reduced weightFor the same nominal current, the aluminium busbar is lighter (AC041 = 2.7 kg / dm3, copper = 8.9 kg / dm3)

Reduced priceThe aluminium version is about 10 - 15 % cheaper

    Thermal dilatation coefficientCopper 12 x 10-6 / KAC041 23 x 10-6 / KDURESCA 30 - 40 x 10-6 / K
